4th gen Bose upgrade
I want to replace my Bose system in my 4th gen Maxima. I already have a RF HU, Kicker sub, and Alpine amp from a previous vehicle. The cost of new speakers is a problem right now. I've read on another post that the stock speakers sound better with an aftermarket HU. Is this true? Would getting a line level converter and using the stock speakers be that much of an improvement (+ my sub), or should I just save up for aftermarket speakers?
Also, is Crutchfield accurate in the speakers size for the doors and rear deck? (they say 6.5" on both) Is mounting depth an issue for the doors? Is it easy to fit aftermarket component tweeters in the OEM location w/o removing the grille? Is it possible to get regular 2-way speakers and also keep the stock tweeters?
Thanks a bunch!

well....when it comes to your speakers....each one is amplified by individual amp by the speakers, if you decide to put and anftermarker deck in u will have to bypass those amps not to riun your deck(the independence is lower on stock)
If you put a line level converter for your subs, the quality will go down the hill...it will sound like your subs r hitting harder and louder but quality......
The size is correct for all speakers...6.5 all the way around...same as in 5th gen maximas...
I would recommend just getting a 4ch amp and new aftermarket speakers(componets for front preferably)
That's what i`m doing....right now still with stock system(SUCKS) but saving money for new components; 6.5 for the back; subs; and amps

Could one possibly wire the left speakers in series to the left front channel and same for right to avoid blowing the HU? I know it would sound crappy compared to decent after market speakers, but it should be an improvement over the 3 blown speaker amps, no CD player and horrid reception.
Think it would work as a temporary solution untill I feel like buying new speakers?

Re: 4th gen Bose upgrade
Just FYI, my HU has 3 sets of preouts, one of those being a "summed" set for the sub, which I would wire through my Alpine or RF amp (which I didn't mention before). So that wouldn't need a line output converter. And yeah I wouldn't use my Alpine 4ch amp if I used the stock speakers. I'm just trying to weigh the cost of a line output converter setup as a temporary solution until I can buy myself some aftermarket speakers.
On that note, how does the PAC OEM-2 compare to the Scosche FAI-3A?
