wiring switches. advice please

Hello Those who know how to wire swtiches in our cars I have a question, now it may seem like a simple question but I dont know and am new to this.

planning on do some wiring up to switches.

I'm getting swithces from

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=060-355

and this is the one.

my red and black wires connect at the bottom where the holes are?

and if so with other swtiches that have 3 whole at the bottom, what connects onto the 3rd one? a 2nd ground?

thanks for the help, I'm a new to wiring and hoping to get some help and clarification.

I saw this switch and the bottom connector and that also fueled me to ask this question.

peace

I presonally prefer the rocker style switch. There is less of a chance of you breaking off the toggle and IMHO it looks better.

What are you trying to connect to the switch?

Simple to do...hot lead goes in one end, then whatever your switching goes into the other. There are no grounds unless either A: your switching something that needs a negative turn on, or B: your switch is illuminated. Three tabs could also refer to a 2 way switch. Center Off, up On for 1, down On for 2.

Thank you Pearl 96Max for the responce that is basiclly what I was wondering, It didnt hit me that it has on-off-on so the other would be for another connection.

Can you name a few circumstances where you would need a negative to turn on something?

Silver Sleeper, I like the rocker switches too the look good, and would blend into our interiors better since its black like the rest, but I love the little toggle swithces and I would love to make a custom bracket and tuck it like in an ash tray or something.

I would be wiring up some neon like for my girlfriend, she is in the process of betting a new bettle and wants me to wiring up some purple ground lights, I'm not a big fan of them but she loves the look of them, so I want to wire some up that cane be turned on and off with wheather the car is on or not, incase she want to pose but I doubt it.

how come in the 2nd picture in my first post a ground is attached to the switch?

I got that picture from a ebay auction for neon lights and it comes with that free switch? is a neon light on of those circumstances that you connect the negative ground to the off position?

Commonly alot of cars use a negative "door or trunk trigger" This is where you would wire the neons/LEDs/etc to constant power, then your ground through the switch. This is also common where some cars use a negative trigger for parking lights.
