Some noob questions on Equalizer/headunits.
Some noob questions on Equalizer/headunits.
HI:
i recently purchased a MTX thunder 801D amp and a Kicker solo L5 15" with a wood enclosure on my stock bose stereo, my car is a 00 maxima GLE.
now, i love how much the sub pumps, but i keep getting some wierd distortion from the sub, the local shop told me it was because of the stock headunit, they had to connect the amp with a HI-to-LOW (whatever the hell that is).
Now i'm thinking of getting a pioneer 7600 headunit and a pioneer 7600 equalizer.
i want the equalizer just for show off (i don't even know how to control the bands). I read on the description of the EQ that i will need an external amp in order to use it.
Since i just want it for looks (i don't like how aftermarket headunits look out of place after installing with the cheap looking housing) i'm wondering if the eq would even work with my stock speakers and no amp for the latter.
I know my sub and mono-amp will work with it.
i tried getting double DIN headunits, but they all look ugly and i don't even like the features.
any ideas?

If the Pioneer source unit has speaker level outputs, then you can use that with your stock speakers. Sounds like the EQ has only RCA outputs...therefore you would need an amplifier. I'm not 100% up to date on those Pioneer units, but I thought I'd throw that out there.
