Help me with Sub

I'm lookin to get a sub(s). Currently I got Phoenix Gold Octane-R components in front, PG Octane-R coaxial in rear, and a SoundStream 480.4 amp powering them. I need to get subs, I want to try and get the most powerful 12 in. (well SQ outweighs the power, but power is priority #2).

Originally I was looking at the Kicker 12in L7 (750wRMS), I was planning on getting 2. Then I saw these 1200wRMS 12inchers from Planet Audio, those look damn good, and they're powerful. They were like 89.9db. with I believe an 150oz magnet. There's also the Phoenix Gold Elites, wich I believe are 12in. have like a 235oz magnet, I don't remember the wattage.

Anyway If you had any of these or you heard them before, I need a recommendation.

I'm lookin for really powerful subs that can play tight bass as well as just straight thumpin, and has a clear soundstage. SQ is #1 priority. Amp recommendations also VERY welcome, as well as installation advice (such as type of box, size, ported-not ported, etc.)

Any useful feedback VERY welcome

Magnet size is just marketing BS. Anyone can add weight to their magnet. Look for the BL (magnet strength) in the Theile/Small parameters. Better yet, look for a graph of the BL compared to the excursion. link If you look, the at the BL vs. X graph, you will see that the magnet strength does not drop as the sub reaches it's maximum excursion. Compare it to the Kicker Solobaric and you will see a big difference.

If you can't find the BL, I would question the quality of the sub.

On the other hand, BL is not everything. You have to look at all of the T/S parameters together. A change in one will affect the rest.

Yeah the Brahma 12in. looks good....2 of those I think would be too much...or would it....tell me what you think.

Where is a good place to buy them?

I also need an amp...any recommendations?

Does anyone know if Planet Audio Subs are good?

Let me Know!

It depends on what your goals are and the rest of your system. Also, 20 subs wouldn't be too much if you properly adjusted the gains to match the rest of the system.

Directly from Adire or Acoustic Visions.

Yea, like the other guys said it depends on what you're looking for, sound quality or general "loudness" (sound pressure level). if its SQ youre looking for, def do not get an L7..

Basically My speakers have good voice production, and good highs, but lacks a little in the mid department, so I basically need the sub to be powerful, but be able to compensate a little for the lack of mids from the speakers...therefore #1 priority is SQ, and #2 is power.

I also need to decide on an amp for the sub

My budget is not small and not huge either, I need to be able to fit all this within say...$600-780. Thats Including a box.

What I was thinking is get (1) 12in Shiva, (1)Box from Subzero, and an amp...I don't know which one. Does the shiva have a tight enough bass to comensate for the mids? I don't know...never heard one...but you tell me.

If you are trying to squeeze this into a 1 cubic foot box (or close to that), then I'd recommend a Dayton DVC 12" over a Shiva. Both are OEMed from the same factory in Kentucky and have very similar performance. The DVC has a smaller Vas, therefore it works better in a smaller enclosure.

An even better sub for a little more money would be the Soundsplinter RL-i 12". It uses the TC2+ motor from TC Sounds.

You could get a JL 13W7 sub and JL 1000/1 amp for $190 from www.greenbreads.com but I don't know if it works or not. You could purchase a cheaper item first, see how that goes and then give us your results.

My friend started up a matrix scam. He just put in random names in the first 10-20 list so before it would get to your name it would take around 200 people to get their item. Dont' fall for it

the shiva can easily make up for the lack of midbass in a 1cuft enclosure. this is ideal for rock also imo. i have mine in a cube each and they are very solid and tight... too tight for my tastes.
