I saw this at WalMart
Pioneer Auto CD Player with 4 Speakers, DEHSP043
It came in a package for $100, are they any good. Dont worry about the price b/c i might get them for free. I'm just asking about quality and easy installation?

anything you see at Walmart is NOT quality, hahaha...
anyway, many might disagree but I'll have to rate Pioneer stuff as tier 2 behind Kenwood and Apline..some "higher-class" stores around here (North CA) don't carry Pioneer stuff because of mixed reviews.

I saw that too. The speakers looked like they were made out of paper or some crappy material. It'll probably be a little better than stok. HU was pretty low end. I wouldn't put pioneer behind kenwood but behind alpine is a yes.
the pioneer should be puttin out more power than the stock bose, any of the decent recent versions are 45x4 watts at least, most are 50x4 (200w total). anything low end has its flaws, but i def prefer my pioneer over my gurl's alpine and they're both in the $160 price range.
the only great thing about bose is that most of the systems include mini amps for each speaker, and thier acouticly designed specifically for that vehicle. However my dad's Bose 6 CD in-dash changer has jammed quite often in his acura (dare i bring that up in the .org)

The head unit is ok, but the speakers are most likely Pioneer's lowest line and not worth the box they come in. If you need to replace the radio, yea that will work. As far as being better than the Bose, get yourself a nice set of components and quality HU.
I have the DEH-1100 (probably similar to that one) in my Bronco and i'm not too happy at all. It does do the job though.
the bose system kicks ***.. im adding a 3rd bose sub to my rear deck.. that should sound pretty nice.. but bose is one of the most respected names in sound... and yea. a 100 set.. will not be better than the bose... well atleast speaker wise...

Their home stuff is okay. They're very innovative. Their gear will last a long time too. However, I'll take a 30 year old tube amp and some 30 year old Sansui floor speakers over anything Bose for the home.
If you want to hear my idea of real car sound, go get a nice (Alpine or similar) 75 or 100 x 4 amp and get some high quality components. Power tweets separately from woofers if possible (requires an active crossover network and you'd have to buy a second amp for the sub) or use the other 2 channels for a sub. Buy any crappy sub and experiment to find the perfect box size. All a $hitty sub needs is a good box. (You may not get competition winning dB's from it, but almost any sub can sound good in the right box) Then get a decent headunit and power the OEM rear speakers with that - keep them at -6dB from the fronts. Total cost? I say you can do it for under $1000 used. Probably even still around $1000 new if you're savvy. It will kick any Bose system's a$$.
How much was that factory Bose option again?
i like my pioneer but i would never use the amp on the cdplayer. all those amps claim to do 22.5 rms, but im sure any 4 channel amp rated at 20 rms would be 4 time louder and sound better. i have 2 sets of components and 2 tweets running up front off of a 2 channel amp and it sounds great. you can get a nice 2 channel that can run at 1 ohm stereo. and run a lot of speakers off 1 amp.

I've had 4 Kenwoods in my lifetime. Everyone of them had problems within 1 - 1-1/2 years. I will probably never buy Kenwood again.
i would place the lower end models of pioneer ahead of the mid range kenwood models. For free i say take it. u could sell it on ebay. but to see the true power of a pioneer u need a 3600 or greater. or premier 360 or higher. paper speaker will be fine with bass blockers ao a crossover to remove the low end frequencies(sp?).
