But my 8454 has one, so obviously amps can't be the problem (at least the main problem). All I can say is that the 8454 far exceeds every expectation I had for it before getting one. And I've owned my fair share of "high-end" units.

That's nice to hear. Knowing that you also didn't like the same model, but do like other models makes me think I'll give the upper end models a try in the future. Another quirky thing about the 5442 was that fact that I couldn't hook up satrad to the aux inputs. I called Eclipse and they confirmed that there was a problem with there current lineup and satrad support. I hope they have fixed this.

If you are shopping for audio equipment at Circut City or Best Buy you obviously need to do more research...or just want to make a really $hitty sounding system

Please read the question. He wanted to know about HU's, not speakers.

How would you put Utopias over $7,000 Rainbows?

Im not sure if they were actually in order, but they may just be His preference. Although I would gladly put the $350 SLs against the Utopias....

XXX line does not exist, they only sell the mid for you to pair up to the RE 'decent' tweet and cheesy crossover

Their mid is better for the DIY crowd, RE doesn't belong in a list comparing top components IMO
