Radar/laser detectors/scrambler

okay, I read the ads, and seen all the reviews.
ive heard stories "oh, my cousins freind has a valentine one, and it sucks" etc.

i am asking you fellow maxowners, to help me sort through all this junk
i want to see the light, please help me on my quest to find and purchase a good radar/ laser detector

iam looking for all types of feedback, brands, types, etc.

i would like only firsthand expeirences please, fact not fiction yes?

why are some detectors 400.00$ and some on ebay for 80$
even though they both claim to detect X, k, KA and more radar and POP, inta-on and more laser channels

and ive read that Rocky Mountain laser scramblers are all scams.

PLEASE tell me what you have running, and your comments and advice
thanks

Holy crap not again. You will find all you need to know in those links.

I have personally tested Rocky Mountain's jamming devices with an officer friend. They do not work at all. Distance doesn't matter. He was able to lock onto me from upwards of 1/4 to 1/2 mile on the straight away. Countless reviews show the same thing. Active Jamming works, but you'll be in jail long enough to miss your kids growing up and the fines cost more than a house. Passive radar doesn't work at all. There are 2 companies that make Laser diffusers which do work very well. You would have to check with your particular state to see if they are legal their. I assure you, if it isn't already illegal it eventually will.

Valentine One
Escort X50
Bel RX65
Bel 995

Those are the only detectors that work great. They don't give tons of false alarms. They all give a huge amount of sensetivity. Each has different feature sets. The V1 is the least detectable Radar detecter to the VG2, Spectre I, II and III. 2nd is Bel and 3rd is the X50. Before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, Speezones reported the X50 as undetectable to the Spectre III, but on another review site that was present during testing reported that the Spectre III unit overheated during each X50 test. When the Spectre III overheats it shuts itself down for protection rendering it useless.

No, the X50 does not "emit" anything, so it must have been a problem with the Spectre III itself.

Many states have laws against emitting a signal that interferes with an officer's ability to monitor and enforce traffic laws. I don't know it they are felonies or misdemeanor.

There is a reason that some detectors cost $80, and some cost $400, just like there is a reason some cars (Ferrari) cost $200,000, and some cost $11,000 (KIA).We're talking about performance, capability, research and development, and sensitivity. You will almost ALWAYS get exactly what you pay for when it comes to a radar detector. Get a cheap one, and you will have POOR detection of ALL bands, CONSANT false alerts, and LOTS of tickets for speeding . I have said this many times, and I'll say it again, when it comes to radar detectors............... DO NOT BUY A CHEAP ONE. This is one piece of technology that you'll want to spend some $$$ and get a top of the line BEL, V-1, or ESCORT.
I recently bought a new BEL RX65 on i-net on eBay, for $234 (retail is $330)
It has the latest, fastest processor chip, and all the latest features to save my a$$ from getting a ticket. Will I be immune from tickets by radar/lidar.....no. Only common sense and self control (especially in my highly modified Turbo Supra) can prevent me or you from ever getting a speeding ticket.

The Spectre III was failing because it was overheating. The test was in Texas and the temp during testing was high 90's low 100's.

Man, think about it. All these radar/laser/satelitte/super valentine shi-t is non-sense. Let's say you got a $400 top of the line detector..what does that mean? NOTHING, because they cop that will catch you has a $4,000 detector. IMO just drive smart and be stupid only sometimes. Plus all those are illegal in most states so when yo a$$ gets caught you're guna get your precious valentine super fast laser detector taken away.

I own a 8500, and no I don't depend on it 100%. I just use it as an aid.

Please explain. My brother is a cop and I have a few cop friends. What kind of $4,000 detector do cops have? My V1 has saved me numerous times from getting a ticket. Radar units cost nowhere near that much and the Spectre units are pretty scarce. Only a few states have them in great quantity. Radar Detectors are only illegal in VA and DC.

Please add an intelligent post that's helpful instead of speaking about a subject that you obviously don't know much about.

Wow!!! I haven't seen such an obvious sign that you don't know what you're talking since......well, the last big RD discussion, but you get the point....lol.

Seriously, please don't comment about electronic equipment that you obviously don't know much about. It confuses people that have legitimate questions. It's obvious you've never had a quality RD or maybe any RD for that matter. So, how would you offer any real advice as to it's worthiness?

My advice, if you want to spend $400, get the V-1. If you want to spend less than that, then get the Beltronics RX65 (@ i-net on eBay for $234 + shipping), or the Escort X50. They are your BEST choices, so it really depends on how much $$$ you want to spend.

Not necessarily. There have been several group sales here on the X50. The V1 can only be ordered directly through Valentine Research. Valentine doesn't do group deals either. No one here has done a group sale on the RX65 so ebay would be your best bet for that. You always take a chance buying on ebay. Most good, but it only takes 1 time to turn you against it.

Bel 980: Bel's top of the line model two years ago and I got it $113 shipped off Ebay with everything except the manual (you can get the manual from Bel's website) Great detector and have had great experiences with it.

Check out the reviews:
