I am installing a Ham Radio in my 1990 nissan maxima. I have looked for hours and still cannot find a way to run thwires through the firewall. has anybody had success with this? and if not, but somebody has drilled a hole and had no problems can you post a picture or something so that I can find a place to drill one too. any help would be much appreciated!

Regards,

Chris

A lot people use the clutch boot to run their power wires for amps.

Remove front driver side tire and the rear portion of the plastic fender well. You'll see a large rubber plug with exsisting wires running to the fuse box. Just cut a slit in the rubber grommet with a razor blade, smear some liquid soap on the cable and she'll slid right in. Soon as you remove the fender well plastic you'll see where you acsess the engine compartment.

To run wires for my driving lamps on '01 Pathfinder,
I removed fender liner from driver side.

Take a wire hanger and unravel it.
Cut off the end so that the end is perfectly straight.
(I filed the end blunt because the cut was sharp, but it might not be necessary).

From the driver's side under the dash, I inserted the hanger where the hood release cable runs into the firewall (I sprayed the hanger with generous amount of silicone lubricant (the cable boot at the firewall is silicone). The hanger meets almost no resistance as it passes through boot into the engine bay (I filed it so that it wouldn't cut the boot, but I am sure it's fine as it is not a CV boot or anything).

I pushed the hanger in until I saw it behind the driver's fender (viewing from engine bay). To the end that is still in the car, I electrical taped the wires that I needed to push through and then pulled the hanger out from the engine bay side.

It might be much easier with the fender liner removed, but it worked fine with me.
