Clipping on bass only
Hey all. Currently when i turn my volume up to a high level my bass clips bad. With my setup i believe that my bass should be able to hang with my high's but it hasn't been....
My setup
Bass
1 Audiobahn Q12 2400 watt rms sub
pushed by 1200 watt JBL amp
High's
Audiobahn 6x9's/polk 6 1/2's
1400 watt crunch amp
wiring
4 gauge from optima red top to trunk, split into 2 8 gauge wires to both amps with 8 gauge grounds. 8 gauge wire from amp to sub
Do u think a cap might help? I know this sub can perform higher than it is currently, especially with the amp i have pushing it. This problem just started recently when i put in my 6x9's and turned up the juice on my high's amp. But i did not touch the sub amp when i did this. Thanx ahead of time.

Feel if the amp is hot, check the gains on it. Try putting 4 gauge between the dist block and the JBL amp cuz it def needs more power, and give it a 4 gauge ground too. A cap will only prevent your lights from dimming and electrical system from losing all its voltage when the amps are drawing a lot of current. So no a cap will not stop amps from clipping.

How do you know that the sub amp is clipping? What is it doing?
Are you sure that it's not the 6x9s that are distorting when the bass hits? If you have the 6x9s mounted infinite baffle in the rear deck and the sub in the trunk, then the pressure from the sub will push against the cones of the 6x9s and will cause distortion, maybe even damage.

I'm using RCA's and i know its clipping because u can hear the sub cuttin out. The interior speakers keep playing fine waaaay past there the bass starts to distort and clip.... The music will play and the bass will hit once, then miss a few beats then hit again then garble, and its definitely the sub, that i'm sure. My box is a cheap one, it could use some more space its probably got less than a foot and a half volume.
A cap wouldnt affect it.
This happened to me over the summer while on a road trip and playing my music for a few hours straight, it was my sub amp overheating. It could be that and or you need a better ground.

Are you sure its clipping and not shutting down ie: protection circuit trip? Clipping wouldnt have anything to do with adding a cap, it occurs from your input stages.
