suggestions needed on '01 non/bose

Need everyones opinion! 01 max..all stock..non bose.

My previous cars all had similiar setups like this.

Factory head unit.. high end speakers (6x9's) all around and a beefy amp to power all.

I've been happy with that.

Now my friends are telling me to replace the head unit ( which I really dont want to do). Id like to keep the price for this below $500

What I was thinking..

Keep the head unit. run all new high end 6.5's all around.

150x4 amp underneath the drivers seat.

does anyone run anything like this?
what do you guys think?

With that budget, what would you guys do?

For that price, it depends where you are shopping and who is installing it. At a retail store that wont get too far. But if you are going ebay or have hook-ups, then I would get a nice radio and 4 speakers. I personally have never heard a good sounding system on a high-low converter. Start with the radio and speakers, you can always add the amp later. Just get a nice head unit with a good internal amp, i.e. Alpine or Pioneer, and youll be fine.

The budget of $500 and "highend" dont really go well together. I mean my components are somewhat 'highend' and they sell at $1278. Just as a reference point.

Tell us what you had before in a bit more detail and then itll be easier to help as everyones standards vary.

True.

I guess that "high end" is a relative term.

1986 Prelude Si- Had the stock radio, $100/pr 6x9s (kenwood 3-way maybe?) fed by the radio on the back deck. Basic 3" (?) on the doors, and two 6" tubes tied down in the trunk fed by a seperate amp. nice. car was stolen. not nice.

1992 Accord EX- I think this was all stock. i dont think I did anything due to me taking a $$ hit on the Prelude. LOL

2000 Prelude- Factory Honda CD player feeding the front 5". 2 6x9's on the back deck fed by an alpine amp (i forget the power).

So you can see---not terribly impressive--just simple--yet effective upgrades.

I think that just replacing the crappy OEM speakers would improve sound a whole lot...
