Newbie needing some help

I am completely new to anything with wires. My problem is that i got a friend of my brother to wire up my amp and subs but nothing works. The amp seems to have power because the green light comes on but i get nothing from the subs. There doesn't seem to be any loose wires coming from anywhere but the ground wire is in a wierd place right next to the security system box in the trunk. Oh and apparently the subs were working for a while but cut out before i got the car back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if they worked for a while but cut out it could be a fuse either the ones on your amp... or the inline that you should have now by your battery... on my amp theres an idicator light that is green (blue now lol) when everything is fine and red when there is a problem.. if yours is green everything should be fine

what brand of amp

also make sure the wires going to the speakers are not touching at the ends that will cause the amp to not play and in the case of my amp go into a safe mode

Well my amp is a jl 500/1 and the only light on is the power light and its green. Could there be some kind of fuse in the deck for the wires that hook up to the amp that blew?. It is an older Kenwood deck if that means anything. When I was looking for loose connections on the amp and sub box i couldn't see any touching wires. Maybe i'll get an audio store to look at it.

Ive had the same problem. Check the ground wire and possibly ground it somewhere else.
