yeah, I like that bungie cord idea. I thought about L screws, but didnt know if i should just drill a hole in the trunk. I also thought about getting like a 2 X 4 and just...wedging it between the Sub and the trunk. thanks for the ideas.

I am not using the stock spare tire cover. I bought some particle board and cut it to fit. It is much more sturdy. With the setup I have you can easily unhook the box and lift it over the brackets to remove it. Then you can get to the particle board that covers the spare and lift it out. My brackets are mounted so that the carpet is secured to the spare cover but you could cut holes for the brackets if you thought this would be a problem. Having the particle board/plywood vs. the stock spare cover makes no difference when getting to the spare tire. Its the actual sub box that will give you trouble and it will be there no matter what is under it.

I also tried the bungie cord method. The problem was that I only had 2 short ones. I connected them together but the connectors happened to meet in the front of the box. One day they rode up so that they were in front of the sub and that is why I have so many nice dents in the cone.
So if you do try the bungie cord method, make sure nothing hard gets in front of the sub.

they are l brackets... l shaped pieces of metal that are like $3 from walmart for a pack of 4. you screw the top part of it into the box..and the bottom into the floor where i reccomend putting plywood or some sort of 1/2" wood to screw into.

if you are trying to say by having it stable it will be louder, i guess you are referring to a sub box being sturdy and not flexing. flexing= loss in spl. however i feel with a nice box whether its tied down or not it should be fine.

I would not secure the box to the brackets - that would make for too much trouble if you have to remove it. Just sit it inside the L brackets. As for securing the piece of wood underneath, I just used the plastic pieces that keep the stock piece from moving around and put them on my new particle board piece.
