Newbie Question: Where should I run my cables?

Hi guys,

I have everything and am ready to install my sub, but am not really sure where i should pass the wires through from the head unit to the amp, same for the power cable, I understand i should pass these wires on opposite sides of the car, but where do i pass them to get them to the back, do they go under the door sills? or over the door? under the carpet? is there a link to a step-by step guide anywhere? I know this is a very basic question, i just dont want to pass the wires where they could be visible and want my job to look professionally done

Door sills/under carpet once you take off door sills.

yup just like kpr10is said...pop the pastic peices off off where you step into the car and lift up the carpet. just run the cables under the carpet for a invisible look. then ride it up the rear seat and pass it through the slit between the back rest and the butt rest of the seat( u no the place that has alot of change) and if do it right, it will go into the trunk w/o making a hole.

just an addition to the above posts, you don't have to run RCA's and power cables on opposite sides of the car. people are scared that this will induce noise into the system, but most of the time, noise is caused by a bad ground somewhere.

I noticed you said it doesn't matter about running all the wires down the same side. I always have run mine on opp. sides for fear of noise, I know this used to be a common problem, is this no longer a problem due to the shielding the cables have on them? Just wondering, I'm sure I will always be paranoid and run my wires on opp. sides. lol

yup. even if someone tells me its ok..i would still take the extra 15 mins and run them on the opposite side. cuz every noise i hear i will blame it on running the wires on the same side. thats just me.

well, i don't know the in-depth tech details on why noise can't be introduce into the system by running rca's and power wires together. maybe Don or someone more knowledgable will chime in. i myself am running all the wires down one side of my car and i get ZERO noise. just make sure all the grounds are good, ie scrapping off and paint at the grounding point to insure a solid connection to the car's chassis.
