Cd player problems

I have a 1995 Maxima with the factory CD/Tape Bose system. In the last week, the CD player has stopped working.....it just says "error" immediately and will not even accept a CD. I hate listening to radio, so I have been dying without a working CD player. Also, I will have the radio on and it will switch over to CD by itself...like there is a short somewhere. I don't know a lot about stereo systems, and don't want to have to get a new unit. Is there anything that I can do to save the CD player? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I got a 96 w/ a bose, mine did the same thing, first it was the display, then the cd player its something with those units I've been told they have problems with those, Its more of a problem changing to an aftermarket head unit im still trying to find a wiring harness that will work with the bose system, you can have people fix it but it will cost like $100 - $300 thats how much they said it would be to fix the CD player and display, and i agree the radio sucks!!!!

I would suggest getting an aftermarket HU. It is a great upgrade, you won't regret it.

I would also suggest a new HU, you have a 10 year old factory unit that has seen too many days.

Thanks for the replies, and I figured that I would have to get a new HU. I just wasn't looking forward to trying to find a HU that will fit right. Is it hard to find a harness that will adapt to the large space of the factory CD/Tape player? Keeping in mind that I don't know a lot about car audio, is this something that I can do myself or should I take it somewhere and pay to get it done?

I'm in a very similar situation

My CD been giving me "ERR" any time I put in a CD, even a lens cleaning CD.

I was going to buy a new head unit last night, just something basic from Best Buy. Both Best Buy and Circuit City told me that since I have the Bose setup, I would need not only a new head unit, but also new wiring and new speakers since the Bose stereo has built in amps on every speaker.

Is there an easy way around this? or are we both gonna have to sink some money into our cars to get this fixed?

www.crutchfield.com

If you buy a HU off of there they will include everything you need to install it and usually for free.

theres a fix sumwhere in the forums... but theres no search button, so its hard to find.

It involves taking out the radio, and replacing a resistor

Yeah, I think I read the fix but repairing a resistor sounds a little too complicated for me to handle. I have been talking to a few friends, and they told me if I bought a new HU they would install it for me. However, I don't know if they knew about the built in amp on the speakers due to the Bose setup. Will I just need to get a special kind of HU that will adapt, or is it setup just for Bose players? Does anyone know of a specific HU that would work?

Any headunit will work as long as it fits in place of the Bose unit (no need for a double din, just get a single and fill the other space with a cd holder or something). Type your car's info into crutchfield and take a look at all the headunits that pop up for it. Any of those units will work as long as you buy the adapter harness that cruthfield sells for about $50. Everything else you need for installation will be included for free. I personally like the looks of this headunit and it has great reviews...and it's cheaper than most since it's not a mainstream company http://www.crutchfield.com/S-a9nCrC5...50&I=070XD7600. I plan on picking it up in a month or so when I'm gettin my ride prepped for the summer
