pioneer headunit faceplate question

I have an older DEH-P740MP headunit. I want to do some mods to the faceplate but in fear of messing it up I was wondering if anyone has attemped changing faceplate to another version (say using a faceplate from a newer version of the same model) to see if it works. And if all that doesn't work, where could I order a replacement faceplate for it? Just in case I mess up this one, to have a replacement ready

Thanks.

Any local independent Pioneer retailer should be able to order you a new faceplate. It will probably run you about $125 to $150 for the replacement. Could try eBay, but I didn't have any luck. Just buy a new radio and be done with it.

I would just try and do the mods that you want to do and if that doesn't work, I'd just get a new HU.

haha, that's funny. "if it doesn't fit - force it, if it breaks, it needed replacement anyway."

I guess I would be better off getting a cheaper HU and mess with that. On the other hand, jacking a faceplate from bestbuy seems like a possibility too...

Thats what I was going to say. I'm thinking about testing my 8600 on an Premier 8600 at ultimate electronics if it works than I'll take the premier and leave the old one.
