Head Unit Question
Head Unit Question
I'm choosing between the Alpine 9847 and the 9853 or 9855...
I have 4 Sony Xplod 220 Watt speakers and nothing else. Does it matter which head unit I get. I know the 9853/9855 look better but they also costs more. They seem to be advertising a better amp even though the output is similar. Does it make sense for me to shell out another $150-200 for the setup im running? How much better will the sound be, if any better? I might get an infinity basslink in the future...
Thanks

Well, if your stuck on Alpine...id get the 53 or up since theyve got a crossover, and since youll be using that to power your speakers, you dont want to send too much bass to em, especially since theyre sony xplod speakers
As far as how much better the sound will be...if you have a factory head unit right now it will be worlds better. If you have another aftermarket...then you should probably look at adding an amp to your mids/highs versus more money on head units.

What do you mean by adding an amp to my "mid/highs" ... I dont know anything about this..what kind of amp would I need and what would it do for the system? Should I just get a basslink instead of this amp addition? I currently have the stock cassete HU piece of crap.
I meant adding an amp to your 4 speakers. Youd need a 4 channel amp....but start with a head unit. Your door speakers (in your case xplod's) dont put out any bass. They put out mids (vocals and midrange instruments) and highs (high pitch, like drum cymbals etc). A basslink or any other sub would give you your lows, for bass. You dont want to send much bass to your door speakers because theyll distort and blow. This is why I said look into a head unit with a built in crossover, since this will block lows from going to your xplod's. Adding an aftermarket 4 channel amp to these would give them more power, and better capability to tune them so that they wont distort, even at high volume etc, and theyll be a lot clearer. So to get full sound (lows, mids, and highs) you should at least get a head unit to power your door speakers, and a basslink or other sub for the lows. And eventually you should get a 4 channel amp, better speakers because sony is crap, and a nice sub and amp combo.
