These Rockford-Fosgate subs seem to be a pretty good price. Are they pretty good? I don't need anything competition-level, just something that'll thump pretty nice.

Let me know what you think:

Or how about these JL audio subs? I've heard really good things about them... seems like $285 is a pretty good price for them.

Please let me know what you think.

Those are very good subs.....you can't go wrong with Rockford. Their subs are raw power. I have the Stage 2 RF series subs in my other car and they are vicious......I say go with a Rockford 2 channel amp: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1099389702599

yeah, feed them enough power and they'll hit pretty hard. i still personally like the older model RFs are better than the new ones. the HX2's was their higher end line of subs.

I run Punch Z's that are 3 years old... and they're decent speakers for being RF low end. And I've played around with some of their stage 2. They sound really good... but I'm a Memphis fan.

Thanks for the advice. I just have a question. It says the subs handle 500W RMS, but the amps only put out 400W RMS. Wouldn't the subs be underpowered?

Neg. 500 watts is an average # for a daily driven non competition system. A bit more or a bit less is not a big deal. If you fed it 100 watts, you will run into underpowering and lots of distortion.

OK, I just took a closer look at that amp. It will not be enough. 300watts at 4 ohm. If you want to find a more efficient pair of subs, that amp will do 150watts X2 at 2ohms. Those RF and JL subs will need more that 150 per sub.

Hey man,

Thanks for the info. Is there an amp you'd recommend that would adequately power those subs? All this ohm stuff confuses me so I'm not exactly sure how to match an amp to subs. I just figured that 500W RMS RF subs would be good and want an amp that will definitely power them well, so if you know of one, please let me know.

One other question: Will I need a capacitor for a system of this wattage?

Cool, thanks. For the old system I got in there now, I have 8 gauge. I guess I'll just get some 4 gauge and a distributor.

Don't forget to let us know what type of music you listen to. This helps out when showing subs. Certain subs run better in Vented or Sealed boxes.

Budget for subs, amp, and box is probably $500-600. I listen to a lot of rap, but also some rock too. I think I'd like to get 2 12s if I could get pretty decent ones, otherwise 2 10s. Let me know what y'all think. Thanks.

Contact Don(Pearl96Max) for suggestions. And yes the BD1000.1 would be sufficient. The .1 on the end means it is 1ohm stable. For this amp to work to it's capacity, you will need to match your voice coil configuration to meet the 1ohm load. hear is a small site I refer to when asked these type of questions.

Hmm, one 12" Memphis M-Class, in a vented box and 500 D amp would run you about $550. And will give you a pounding.

Vented will work great with your rap music. And the combination of the M-Class and 500 D amp will keep your rock sounding clear. That's my recomendation. But hey, I'm the "Resident Memphis Nut"...

Pardon the ignorance, but what's a vented box? Also, would it be that much more expensive to get two of the M-Class subs? Can that one 500 D amp power two?

Umm Chris, hate to do this to ya buddy, but thats incorrect. The ".1,.2,.4,etc" refers to the channels. Although that amp may claim to be stable at 1 Ohm, its sheer coincidence. Otherwise that would mean the 800.4 and 500.4 are only stable to 4Ohm?

Already gave you a PM about the subs and amp. A vented box is almost the same as a ported. I refer to ported as having round openings, vented having the square.

The box in my truck was designed specifically for the Memphis subs. It's a big box as you can see. The M-Class works well in smaller boxes, my box was built in mind to hold a M3.

If the picture doesn't work, click on "Cardomain Site" on my signature.

I need to get on the ball. I honestly thought that is what it stood for. I didn't think to reference that theory with other amps. I think I will stop posting for a while. My brain must be tuning into mush.

Thanks for the correction. I learn from you guys everyday.

Care packages are welcome. Just don't make them too big or heavy. After all, that 05' G doesn't have a ton of room. Especially after my fat a$s gets in.
