Which box "style" Would be best for me?

I don't much about #'s or whatever, I have 2 sh|tty mtx subs right now and I'm going to get rid of those and get 1 12 instead. (I havn't decided what to get yet) Which box style would be best for boom? ( feeling the bass ) I don't care about the looks of the boxes and I have my full trunk to work with.

#1 Sealed square

#2 Sealed slanted

#3 Sealed "pyramid"

#4 Ported "Plexi"

#5 Generic "Vented"

Thanks

i'd go with vented/ported. bandpass if designed right will slam, but most prefab ones suck.

Do you know where I could get one that designed right? All the ones ive see are pretty cheap and im pretty sure theres generic "dimentions" SP? inside.

nah, i don't know where you can get good ones

my box is ported, and was built by a local guy here in houston. my sub in his box he built absolutely slams. i found out that he was in my area over at www.caraudio.com/vb so you might find someone in your area that builds boxes as well.

Generic ported would give you great boom. Also allows for more freq ranges than a bandpass.

IMO #5 would be best. I hope you are building yours yourself because prefab boxes suck. Not to mention building it yourself is cheaper. Go here if you need help ---> bcae1.com

Check out a company called Audio Enhancers. They build boxes for Memphis Car Audio, JL, KOVE, KICKER, and DIAMOND. Both style of boxes that I had in my truck are built by them and I can tell you the craftmanship is excellent. They brought more life to my RF subs than a box supposedly "tuned" for them.

But it is a lot of fun building your own.

well, according to my box builder, placement of the sub does have some minor affect in spl. but for an everyday thing, it won't really matter unless you're trying to squeeze every .1 dB out of your setup. i don't know how accurate his info is regarding sub placement, but the kid does do a crapload of spl competitions, so take it for whats its worth.

It all depends upon how the box is originaly designed. And what the subs call for.

But you're right, for everday use, it's not that important.

Ok, thanks for the replies. The diagram I have places the sub as far away from the port as posible. I'll just keep it like that...

Nothing could beat a properly tuned box for the specific subwoofer unless somebody made an error.

I have this 12" generic box and it pounds. It's about 2.25 cubic feet, which is perfect for a lot of JLs and is slot port-tuned at about 30 hz. It was around $50 shipped on eBay.

I think that was the case, or it was tuned for a different RF. I got it off a coworker for nothing, he wanted to clear some space in his garage. Said it was built for RF subs, but he couldn't remember which series

Oh well, I won't have the RF for much longer. Getting my new M-Class Memphis subs in a few weeks.

That looks very nice, Is that how you have it all the time? Have you tried moving it around and comparing?

I'd reccomend a sealed if he was after pure SQ... but he's wanting to feel the bass. Here's a good basis to go by.

Sealed - great for Rock and Roll, pop... etc. They offer the best response to changing freq. But lack the pressure feeling

Ported/Vented- Can be used for R&R, works well with Techno, and rap. Not as good response as with sealed... but can be tuned to so the difference can't be telled.

Bandpass- Usually tuned for one certain freq... usually found in Rap... pound the living be jezzus out of you... but does not work with R&R and techno all that well.

Yeah,
I tried to move it around, point it facing the trunk, have it pointing thru the ski hole into the cabin, etc, but this position is the deepest, hardest hitting position I have found in my trunk.
