I just got a set of the cdt cl 61a components and wanted to get some ideas on tweeter relocation. Thanks.

Use some double sided tape, and try them in different locations just like slickrick said. Let everyone know which you liked best.

yea, I have no tweeter location (I guess non bose's have no tweeter spots?) Does this mean I'll have to drill the door apart ?

What have you guys done? BTW I have CDT CL-61a's too. I'm so lost, and this is the only thing I need help with!

Drill right in front of the door handle, it looks tight. I'll get a picture for you in one second.

my car needs a good cleaning.

One thing to remember, use a hole-saw/cut-a-hole that is smaller than the tweeter cup so that you get a good tight fit.

hah my parents are gonna flip a **** if they see me drill my doors, but hey, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

where did you mount your crossovers? I'm thinking of putting them under my seats near the amps (theyre' goin under there too). But i dunno if they'll fit. Can i stick them someplace behind the door maybe?

Yeah, mine fit in the door next to the speaker. Use really good tape or a REALLY short screw to mount them somewhere where there's room. Also, make sure they're in there tight, with low bass hits the crossovers will rattle a bit in the door if they're not secured tightly.

What is the sail panel? Is it that black piece that sits on the inside of the mirrors?

it's almost sad that we cut our cars up, but oh well!! For the crossovers they fit in the door pockets and you can make a custom plexiglass cover to show them off, it takes a little work though. If not they should be able to fit inside the door, put them in plastic bags to prevent moisture.

Play with locations. IMO it will often be in the kicpanels. Get a little circle hole saw, drill the hole, and mount. Easy and effective!

Yeah that's probably what he means, but also.. there is a little pocket-like section on the inside of the door that is big enough for a crossover. I'm not sure why somebody told you to not put your tweeters more than 8" away from your mids, that's not true... I believe it's 18". The sail panel is the black section in front of the window, but I still would recommend the door. Everybody thinks it is the coolest modification in my car and says it looks like it belongs there.

Well those sail panels would be cheap to pick up at a junkyard when it comes time to return to stock and sell the car. Leaving a hole in the door would look horrible.

If you put your Tweeters 18 inches away from your mids you'll notice a great sound difference,at least in components. For great SQ you want the mids and tweets to blend and not sound like there coming from different places. You also dont want one range of music to get to you before the other. EX: You wouldnt want to hear your mids and then your tweets. If you put them too far away from each they might not sounds as good as it can. One range will reach the listener before the other, in other words you will hear a gap between your tweets and mids. I do agre that the best way is to play around with it until you find one that fits your liking.

just fyi.. the human ear cant really pick up delays of less than about 10 milliseconds. . in which time sound travels about 11 feet. So as long as your speaks are less than 10' from eachother.. the timing should be pretty much right.

Personally,. I like Tweets on the A-Beam. . level with my Ear. That way I get great stereo image. .and my Arm doesn't block the sound. Thats how I had them in my Pathfinder.. and it sounded better than my Max witht he tweets in the door.

check my site for pics of the tweeters I had put in the door (common location) but I had them in the back dash as well...the remote amp control allowed for total cut out of the really low signal for certain listening requirements...but anyhow there are some pics at http://maxima.cardomain.com/ride/132618/2

bad idea, maxgtr2000, putting x-overs in plastic bags WILL only get you condensation and rusted unprotected metal. i found out the hard way.

well because it was professionally installed, they did make certain precautions to ensure sound quality,...and unless you are a SQ judge or legitimatly trained to hear that level of difference, it wouldnt matter....everyone who ever sat in the car said it sounded amazing. Either music or DVDs had exceptional quality and allowed for great spacing when sounds traveled around the stereo spectrum and placement.

I would just like to defend what I said earlier, the tweeters do not have to be less than 8" from the woofer. DJFrestyl, I thought I was the first to come up with that idea for mounting them in the Maxima. Looks good on your car too.
