sony dvd HU

i have a red and white LED interior and my next upgrade will be a 7" screen and HU... sonts HU's are red and white and would be a perfect match for my interior theme... so question is: is there a good sony HU that plays dvd/cd/cd-r/vcd... like the micrvison one does?? would a sony HU pair up good w/ the microvision 7" screen? thanks.

when buying online...pioneer dvh-p5000mp (i say online because 3-400 is usually this unit's ebay price) or dvh-p7000, or Alpine DVA-7996 (old model) or the new Alpine DVA-9965 which is awesome but you wont find it anywhere yet and it wont be under a grand

I have owned a lot of different brands of H/U. Alpine, Eclipse, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony. I would have to say that my least fav of them all was the sony. The Sony H/U i owned...which was an high $ ES model...had the worst problem with the disc skipping. The CDs that wouldn't even play n my sony would work n any other CD player i tried them n. Don't get me wrong, Sony usual comes out with very good looking H/U, and their home audio/video products are awesome, but i would not recommend buying a car H/U to anyone. BTW Sony's mobile video screens have an awesome picture, but they r about 2x more than the Microvision that everyone on the .Org uses.

Is the Alpine DVA-9965 the one with the glide touch?

I was curious about the glide touch and tried it out on several ocassions (on the regular CD/MP3/WMA models). It seems more for show than anything. I personally prefer the buttons, much easier to operate.

It looks like I will not be going back to Alpine HU's anytime soon. They continue to go downhill. Instead of using better internal components on higher models, they add stuff that is not necessary. It's ok though as I was planning on another Eclipse HU for my next car .

I am not too fond of Sony's current offerings, but at least they are using Burr Brown DAC's.

Sony does not (read: does not) make good quality car audio. Sorry to break this to you so harshly. Yes their Grand WEGA TV's are awesome, but that doesnt mean everything they make is great.

I have seen a more beautiful face

what good is a good loiking face if it doesn't offer good sound quality + good price?

i believe sony cannot make any good audio equipment, even home audio made by sony sux.

Sony makes good TV's and monitors, oh and the PS2. Everything else is crap.
Maybe the old walkmans were pretty darn good, but since the ipod stormed the market, forget sony.

Everything you listed (except for the pioneer dvh-p5000mp) is above $700 dollars! I don't think that's very helpful. Anyone own the Panasonic CQ-D5501U or JVC ARSENAL KD-ADV6160?

Yeah, and I need your approval about as much as I need his. I've had two Alpine decks in the past and the lights burned out, disc searched for what seemed forever on cold days. Not again. For the most part it's about the features anyway. The speakers and Amps make much more of a difference as far as sound is concerned. This Sony is new for 2005 and isn't exactly cheap either. If it's alright with you, I think I'll put my trust in one of the best electronics companies in the world. Japan kicks our azz when it comes to technology. I love America, but thats the hard facts.

I do not know why you are upset. At no time was I trying to ridicule you or offend you. I was just making a comment on the "beautiful face", which I actually thought was a funny statement. Loosen up a little. I apologize if I did offend you, as this was not my intention.

As far as your stament about speakers making much more of a difference. I will have to disagree somewhat on that, the head units can also play a big part in the sound that is obtained. Granted it may not be as much as the speakers and amps, but to say speakers and amps play "much more", I believe is not fully correct. I've had higher end model Alpine's, two of them being CDA-7998's, since having my older Alpine setup. The equipment in my car has pretty much remained the same, especially my components and amp driving them. The sound in my car was noticeably not at the same caliber as when I had my CDA-7949/PXA-H600 combo. I ended up going with an Eclipse CD8454 and the sound all of a sudden got a lot better, similar to my old setup. I tried to tweak my other units to sound like my older Alpine setup, but could not do it. Tweaking the sound will not make up for lesser quality internal components. Even my sisters who are not into car audio could hear the differnce between the different HU's I mentioned.

I try to inform people of my experiences as well a many others here. I have spent a good amount of money on my car's audio system. I have taken a misguided turn here and there, as have others. This is where this forum helps out alot. People let you know what is good and what is not so good. Much of this information comes from our own personal experience, or somebody we know. Our hard earned money was spent on this stuff, sometimes unwisely. Sometimes the more expensive stuff is not necesserily the best, as far as features, sound quality, or overall quality. Many other times it is. For the most part people on this forum try to help each other out, we are lucky to have many people here with a great amount of knowledge on car audio. I have been to other sites where people are seriously misguided and just spread their misunderstanding to other individuals.

I'm not exactly upset and do value opinions. However it all comes down to various comparisons for money value. And YES, for me looks is a concern also. There are very few good looking single din DVD players out right now at a decent price (disregarding the pyles, Ahdiobahn, Bravo and other unpopular brands). This may be the time I make a misguided turn, but I think it's worth the risk. It's Sony 2005. New day. lol.

They are nice looking recievers, but $1,400 is a bit over the top for me. At least when it comes to a car deck. I would never spend more than $500.

I do not think that this is a misguided turn for you. You know what you are getting and you are happy with that. In the end that is all that matters. I agree that sometimes what is the "best" may not necesserily be the best for you. Reason why I have not really bought newer stereo components (amps and midrange/tweeter setup) for my car. Some of the stuff in my car is pretty old. I purchased my four channel amp in 1997, good amp . Do I want the newer better stuff, heck yeah. The only thing is that I cannot at this time justify spending more money when the old stuff still functions properly and sounds good (at least to me, and that is what matters).

When I get the new car later, that is another story . I pretty much have that system already planned out. I usually just yank everything out of my older car and put in the new one, but I will be keeping the Max for a while.
