Does anyone know where we can buy the double din McIntosh receiver that is in the new Subaru VDC Wagon? That would make a nice upgrade for the max.

http://www.subaru.com/vdc/subaruvdclg.html
click on option #4

I am hoping that since these units are being made in volume for Subaru, we can find a good price on them.

www.theautophile.com would be the first place I looked. But we might not be able to use them, since they may (probably) proprietary to the Subaru.

I checked them out, but they didn't have the double din unit. The McIntosh single din CD receiver retails for $1200. I am sure that Subaru isn't paying that much for their unit, I was hoping that with a few wiring mods that we could get the McIntosh to fit, and that we could get the unit at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the help though.

I know what you mean. Problem is, if you were to buy it from Subaru, I'd bet it would cost a fortune, kinda like our BOSE stuff. Now on the other hand, if you have good inside contacts at Subaru that can get it cheaper, then please let me know

I could be wrong but.......

One thing I heard about the McIntosh (or Rockford Fosgate) head units was that they were made by Clarion. I am wondering if this is still true.

Yeah, I have a Nak in my other car, just a regular cd receiver though. Is the 6 disc in dash a double din unit?

The 6 disc is an add on changer. Which means you need a capable nakamichi cd or tape receiver to control it. If you are interested, it's on auction on ebay under user "sweetsound2001@hotmail.com"
Good luck

I think Hyundai make the RF headunits! A friend who works at Crutchfield told me that about 6 - 10 months ago.

. . . Exactly how many companies don't claim to make the equipment with their names painted all over the sides?
