Navigation To DVD/PS2/TV you name it !!
Sticky material ?? hope it is !!
Well, some of us in this forum (including myself) bought a kit to be able to have a video input into the same screen where the navigation data is displayed...well, the idea is pretty basic...split the video input of the screen to allow an auxiliary source to come in trhough when a switch is activated. installation is also simple...kinda...since it is the video input of the screen that is being cutoff, the navigation systems comtinues to function in the background all it doesnt is display the map in the screen but if you are following directions and have the voice guidance on, it will still come on to indicate you turns and distances and such...
the kit came from tvandvan2go.com for my knowledge price is about 250 and some mentioned installation running at about $100.00 just for the video input. kit is well worth the money, installation...unless is done for free, you should do it yourself and not pay a penny for it...IT IS EASY
As i mentioned above, this kit allows you ONLY to have a video input, actually two, there is one input for a backup camera that switches automatically when the car is put in reverse, and the other input is activated by means of a switch. the input where the camera is supposed to go can be used as another input which can be activated not only when the car is put in reverse but any time you want if an aditional switch is installed to trick the box and allow the video source to go through. you do not get AUDIO IN with this kit so a solution should come into play for this. I ordered the PAC AAI-NIS for this, waiting to get it but hopefully will do wonders like many mentioned here. you can also use the FM transmiter but me personally will not settle for this option.
Well, the kit comes with these instructions... i mean this paper...if you can figure anything out of this, then you can call them instructions, I just call it scrap paper...

here are some close ups just in case for some of you this is enough...by the way sorry for the quality but is my old-dirty-banged-and-dropped-many-times-phone...

well, i guess those instruction didnt help much huh ?? well, you can try to call the store that sells the item but hey...i think you have a better chance to figure it out by the above pics than to get someone to help you in the store...now, dont get me wrong, if you get to talk to Dominic, the person who designed this kit and in my believe the owner of the store...(see when you own a bussnisness you are more likely to help the customer and get him happy than if you are an employee, an employee still gets paid nomatter waht, the owner cares about the customer coming back and make his buzz grow..just my 2cents on that one..) you WILL be helped, chances of you getting to talk to Dom are slim, i spoke to him twice, not about the kit but he was very helpfull, unlike the other people in the store...when i asked them about the installation i was on hold for 30 mins, then asked to leave anumber to be called back within 20 minutes, 40 minutes passed and noone called me so i called again just to be placed on hold form good 10 to 15 mins, just to be told they will call me within 15 mins this time , 30 mins passed so i called back but i was told that at 430 everyone was gone and no one was there to hlp me..next day same story but at 445 a guy came on and told me ok you cut this, this, and this, if it doesnt work cut other cable till you find the right one...ok !! thank you for the help. so far you have three options, the scarp pare to be follow as instruction, call the store for guidance, pay for the installation or this thread !! so here i go !!

first, remove the dash, the middle part i mean. there are instructions how to do this somewhere else in the forum so i am not to get into this detail...once the dash is removed, lossen up the screws that hold the screen and the radio into place, once it is possible to acces the back of the scren and radio , unplug it...basically you only need to unplug the scree but i unpluged evrything so i would be more comfortable while doing this...scary look...
now take the connector that goes into the screen, remove the plastic sleeve that covers the bundle of wires, or not, this is just so you can have more slack in the wires and maybe cut them as low as possible, i cut mine close to the screen, but i put the new cable to run with the stock one and then cover them with the plasctic sleeve...
well, in the connector you have to locate 4 wires, this are the wores you are going to cut in half, so you will have 4 ends attached to the conector that goes into the screen and 4 wires that come from the nav systems. the wires are towards the middle of the connector-all 4- they are...green Should be only one green in there), red and gray, white and grey (should be one up one left from the red. and black...tricky one !! there are 4 black wires in the conector, but only one towards the center of the conector...all this 4 wires are close to each other so you can have an idea...
well, the cable that goes into the adapter has 9 wires...purple, orange, brown, yellow, red, blue, green, gray, black
you have red, green, white and black comming from the connector that goes into the screen...
red=red from the connector of the 9 wires cable to the kit
green=white
white=gray
black=blue
the wires that come from the nav system and once were going into the screen are now...
red=orange
green=brown
white=yelow
black=purple
you may ask at this point what these wires you cut were...well, too late for that but if you still want to know...video is divided into 3 colors...blue, red and green. when combined in the right proportions, it will display all the other color e se in out tvs, computers and in this case ..nav systems !! you've cut red, white, and black i guess people at nissan are color blinded or just plain original...red wire is the red color in the screen, white is green, and black is blue...oh yeah you also cut a green wire, that is the wire that tells all the colors to shoot straight to the screen in front instead of running side to side ... well you should have a black wire left from the connector that goes into the converter...if you were paying attention you noticed you cut 4 wires and had 8 end connected into the wire that goes to the converter, the wire left is ground...you figure out where to get it from !! now plug everything back, run the new wire where you wnat it to go, connectedto the converter, give 12volts to the converter...it has two wires mark for this on the other end of the converter, ad plug whatever it is you want into the rca inputs...like what you ask ?? anything !! ps2, dvd, tv, computer, no limits...if it displays video and has an output you van plug it in there...just make sure you get an adapter form whatever it is the output into rca and just plug it in ...plug it in !! jajajaja
all other details like where to put the converter, where to get 12 volt for the converter and stuff like that is all matter of personnal choosing...i put my converter right next to the shifter, fits really tight ..i ran then a rca from there to the glove box which is where i WILL have a rca board with multiple inputs so i can connect anything in there and i will put in the glove box a PS2, dvd/tv tuner and will be accesible to plug anythng else i may want to ...you know, my nephew may want to plug his xbox in there and not play PS2...

well, as of now, i have no audio, cant wait to get my pac adapter and plug the ps2 in there...jajajajaja so excited !!
some plans i have... for the nav screen i want the following inouts...PS2, tv tuner, the one i am lookin at also has dvd player, mp3 playe, vcd, and all this...preety good since the ps2 wont play vcd nor mp3s..and a computer, fully functional. the ps2 will have wireless gamepads (4) there will be an option to display this on the headrest monitor (which i dont have yet) but the headrest monitors will have they own dvd player( which is the same than the fornt one so they will have a tv tuner as an added bonus..) wirelless headphones for all three screen so i can still play the radio while my nephew plays his xbox, my niece watches britney spears dvds, and my brother surfs the internet ... i kinda have a basi idea of what i need and how it all will be layed but i will take any sugestions !!
like i said before...hit me qith ay questions and/or comments !!

luigi, where did you put the switch to change from nav to video input? I put mine in the left wall of the little compartment on the bottom of the dash, where you access the dvd-rom. I was going to put it near the cup holders but i figured if I ever needed to bring the maxima into the dealership for warranty work, having it so visible might not be a good idea.
I'm also waiting for my pac adapter. Right now I have audio through the headphone output on my dvd player to a tape adapter.

i was planning this though...
as i mention before, i will have an input board in the glove box, this will be for 4 inputs, not that i need them all but ...i will also have a converter from 12volt to 110 for stuff like the ps2 and the pc...i will hide it away somewhere and run a smal outlet-kind to the glove box, so all the connections will be in the glove box, i will then have switches to change between say..ps2 to dvd or to pc and viceversa...i was thinking of removing the cupholder and make a plexiglass-switch-board which would be covered by the stock cover...so basically i will just open the cup holder compartment and there would be my switches.
well, dealer comes into mind. for what i was told nuthing would affect my warranty unless whatever i've done is the reason why something went wrong. so unless me putting a ps2 and a bunch of switches in my car doesnt affect anything, i should be good...i hope i will be good !! i worse comes to play and something goes wrong and i suspect this stuff to be the reason, i will probably just take few mins to take it apart and see what r they gonna blame it on...i am pretty sure they will notice the spliced wires behind the screen though !! lol ...
that left lil door you've mentioned, i thought of using it like this...take the 12volt for the 110volt converter out of there and then find a new lil-door ( so i save the stock one for future replacement) and after hiding the converter put the oulet-like conection on the door so it would be like gaving a wall outlet but i though it could be better to have everything in the glove box...i am listening for new ideas though !!
luigi
FOR AUDIO YOU WILL NEED some other adapter, you can use an fm transmiter, cassette adapter but me personally will go with the pac adapter AAI-NIS.
nope, the unit i put it next to the shifter so if i needed to access it, i wouldnt have to remove the whole dash just for that...but yes you could fit it in there, there is enough space for that !!

I guess what you need is the opposite... something that converts the onboard video going to the screen into something that you could use with an aftermarket screen. You can probably get a hold of Dominic and see if there's a way to do it...

my comment might be dumb but like i said i didnt quite understand you...my comment is ...if you are going to use an aftemarket lcd, why dont you just connect the video source to it and leave the navigation alone?? this kit is so you can have a different source of video on the navi screen...
so viguera gave you a point of view and here is mine...
Maxima 2002 - 2003 owners,
Please note that our all-in-one Navi systems will NOT wire straight like the newer models. I'm working with Dom now to find a solution (I'm sending him my unit). It will involve some internal wiring in the NAVI unit. He's hoping to get a wiring instruction thing together over the next few weeks for DIY'ers, so we'll need to be patient.
Great pics and install, Lugi! Good choice on the in-line audio. I have it now for my Jukebox and much better than FM transmitter.
I'll post a new thread when we get closer to a solution for the 2002-2003 red-headed stepchildren.

I've sent him pics of the internals but I see a lot of ribbon tape wire from the screen to the circuit board. He's going to use my unit to locate and create a writeup from. I've been out of the country for a week so he's been waiting for me to send in my unit. This guy has been nothing but responsive and helpful. I'm sending the unit this week or early next (holiday weekend) I should get it back within a week after that. I'll let ya'll know how it goes
send it quick !! it is woth !!
An update on the 2k2 - 2k3 application of this Mod. Dom and his brother finished my Navi and it's on it's way back to me. I should get it in the car this coming weekend. He said it was a pretty significant wiring modification internally to the Navi unit and he would offer to do it for others at a price (contact him for details). He did mention that this Navi unit uses a Horiz and Vert sync which gives it an incredibly clear screen (better than almost all he's seen out there on all Navis). I can't say enough about how great he and P&L Electronics have been. I should hold judgement until I have everything connected but so far - he's done what he said and in the time he said - incredible customer service. I'll install and take pics this weekend.
Looking forward to getting my climate control and Navi back - been driving in circles all over the place.

Bumping this thread.
Luigi, the 9 pin VGA cable that came with this unit has 10 wires in mine.....
brown, yellow, red, orange, black, grey, GREEN?, purple, blue, and then an un-insulated wire that by my assumption is the shield.
Since there was no white, I substituted black. I am getting some sort of video out of the screen but it is scrambled and moving across the screen very quickly. The green wire is not being utilized and the shield wire is grounded. Tomorrow I will try grounding the green in addition to the shield. If that does not work I will ground the black and use the green.
Will keep you all posted, but just wanted to inform that the wire colors for the cable coming with the unit are not 100% in sync with luigi's write up. My assumption for this that they simply use different VGA connectors between last year and now.

Update, guys.
I was able to figure this out today with no directions.
The VGA cable had 9 wires + shield. Black and shield go to ground. That left 8 wires. 4 come FROM NAV and the other 4 go out to the screen. The wire colors that we used on the factory screen harness are:
red/silver band (not stripe) : RED VGA
black/silver band : BLUE VGA
white/silver band : GREEN VGA
These three wires are bundled together, and further up the line you can see they go into a brown plastic sheath
The VGA SYNC wire was a solid green wire in a different "bundle."
That is all.

Back from the dead?
Wow, this is an old thread.
I never updated in here but posted a new thread way back when.
I did get the unit back and it has worked flawlessly since. I run a Fahrenheit DVD/TV Tuner through the Navi.
djfrestyl,
Is this wiring for a 2002 / 2003 Navi? I think the issue that with our Navi's is that they have an additional Horiz synch as well (unlike most screens). That's why we chose to do the the wiring at the board level. It also gives us a much cleaner screen, though. If you are wiring something else, sorry to butt in.
