Both good decks. The Premier has better higher preout voltage, and a bigger EQ. Alpine has better FM Sens. and better Signal to Noise ratio. Beyond those, its a matter of whether you want a nice screen. If it were me Id go with the Pioneer Premier, not only for higher preout voltage, but the 9831 is a very common deck. Im all about putting things in my car that most people dont have.

Nah not from me, that he would have to buy local. I could send him the 860, but none of the Eclipses. He lives to far away.

So basically, the "can barely drive across town" comment applies to more than one aspect of your driving. Or maybe its NYC I think I could make it more than 3 months driving around here without scraping a lip to hell

lol sorry about getting so off topic. It happens when any combination of me, slickrick, ascendantmax, or Pearl96Max start making fun of 2 da...err...talking.

The concensus is in. If you must choose between those two, get the Pioneer, but price out Eclipse locally because theyre gonna give you the best results.

Wait for Don to see this thread again to get a sense of price range (even though he will probably sell cheaper than stores near you) But Im guessing a 5425/5435 would be around there. Check out the eclipse site, www.eclipse-web.com

I'd take the Pioneer.

Just make sure you do a search on those HU's and inform yourself on the common problem plaguing them. The preouts are known to have internal ground issues causing noise and or failure of the preouts. They have known ribbon cable/motorized face problems that will cause them to eat your CD's as well.

here's good place to start-good luck
http://www.caraudio.com/vb/search.php?searchid=644217

If I were you and had my mind set on a Pio, I'd wait until the next lineup comes out hoping they fixed some issues.

Well I've got the Pioneer and I like it. The only problem I'm having is sometimes faceplate gets stuck it might be because the heat. I like the customizable stuff too which I will do eventually. I am also having trouble reading scratched cds which I know work on other cd players. Maybe its just mine. I still say pioneer cause its easy to use.

I agree 100%. I love Pioneer HU's but I had a Pioneer amp and the thing was supposed to be amazing but I had nothing but problems with the thing.

Who informed you that any Pioneer amp was amazing?
Just curious. We asked my Pioneer rep why do the amps basically suck. He just said we hit a soft spot.

The new Premier amps are actually pretty solid amps. Underrated, nice looks and very powerful& affordable.

Our rep did say they were better this model year, but theyve still got a little way to go, plus to overcome a negative image is nearly impossible.

ill agree with SUpercross...the Pioneer decks do look a lil cooler, but the Alpines are a lot nicer as far as running and controlling Amps and Subs is concerned...Id go with Alpine...but not necessarily that Unit....the 9835 however...juicy....

in my exprince, pioneer is the best. plus if you are getting the permier version it covers 2 yr manfucatior. Pioneer is easy to fix by many shopes, where alpine not.

Also for pioneer, get the the steering wheel remote countroll, it is hoked to your steering wheel and can countrol the pioneer.

Had 7 pioneer mp3, cassete, 10GB harddrive by pioneer, with now defect since 1997

Had 3 alpine cd mp3 since 2002, with at least 8 problem that canot be fixed.
