Yes, I'm an idiot but I really need to know some of these details, don't get angry with my stupidity.

How powerful is the Bose system in the 1997 model? Does it have the 6 speaker setup like in the 2000 model? What size are the individual speakers?

Also, can I replace the speakers with Infinity Kappa's and add two amps for powering them and a sub while keeping the head unit? (It needs special outputs or something right?)

If anyone can tell me of good amps and a sub that aren't too powerful that would be great. I'm looking for loud (and clear) music instead of bassy music, but I do want a decent sub(s) for that low end. Also, I'll be on a budget so cheap prices are quite welcome.

And I'm a complete moron when it comes to these things, so please be simple.

The 2000 models have 7 speakers. And 200 watts. as far as replacing the bose speakers, it is not hard to do. I have used a inexpensive set of rca cables (female) and spliced them into the outputs on the bose head unit. Just follow the proper wiring diagram and it will work fine. Just did a pathfinder for a friend and it works well.
