My current sub amp (that I've used for years) is an MTX Thunder 2160 which so far, seems to do a really good job with this sub.

Check out my classified thread here for that info on the 3 8's.

Yeah, the HU hasn't really had too much more work done on it just yet. I'm going to try and get something going with that in the next week or so.

Thanks Manny. I've decided that I'm just going to go with the GXE mounting kit. This HU install has been a major PITA. I've installed and uninstalled it about 3 times now, and haven't been happy with any of the results. Also removing the OEM faceplate is becoming quite a PITA as well.

The only way that this could be done is if you had an ipod adapter for your aftermarket HU. First off, you need a HU that is compatible, I know Pioneer's have an adapter for about $100 cutter for your D1, and then once you have a HU that can control your ipod, you would need a PAC adapter for the steering wheel controls. And even then you would have to have steering wheel controls that would scroll between tracks. Definetly can be done but not cheap. Also the only way to run an ipod through a factory deck would be to get an FM modulator, which will only play audio through one of your FM station's. You CANNOT control the ipod through the factory deck. Hope this helps.

Using the equipment below, I cut one of the power outlet adaptors, grounded one wire and ran the other to a 12v source. I then plugged in the iPod Auto Kit into the outlet. On the plug portion of the iPod adaptor, there is a 1/4" jack which the Monster cable plug goes into. The other end is plugged into the AUX on the back of the Eclipse. The other end of the iPod Auto Kit cable plugs into your iPod. This charges the iPod while it plays. Also, it turns off when you turn off your car (which is something I found out last week). Hope that helps. Once my GXE mounting kit arrives, I will be taking more pics and I will get some detailed pics of the actual wiring setup that I've done.

why not hardwire the charger to the car instead of running that ugly power splitter? seems essentially like my set up. i run a dock that has a line out port which ive found sounds a lot nicer than running into the headphone jack. hardwired charger also running to the dock which is velcrowed in place... overall im happy

Wow, great thread. I am in the process of returning my pioneer ipod adapter since the interface is horrible. I think this setup will work for me until I the neo ion or Ice link have pioneer compatible models.

I followed everything you said, but am unclear on one thing.

I plan to do exactly as you said....Buy the parts you have. plug the belkin into my aux in via the rca cable. Pioneer 7700 if it matters

I dont understand how you are powering it.

1. I am pretty clueless with electronics (especially car electronics)
2. how are you powering the unit? I see the cigarette adaptor but cant imagine you would run a wire out of the c-lighter by your ash tray (seems to sloppy for a man of your "detail") =)

I couldnt really follow about what you said about, slicing and ground the wires behind the dash. Is there a "easy way" to plug a cig adapter in from behind the hu?

Sorry for being such a newb.

I believe uou can unhook the stock cigarette lighter from behind and connect the cigarette adapter shown in the pic. Then you hook the belkin car kit adapter to it. One end will plug into the new cigarette lighter and the other end will connect to the ipod or ipod dock depending how your set up is. You can hide all of the wiring behind the dash so noe of this will be showing.

You can PM kpr10is since he did my hookup.

Great Idea. I could prob even use the cig lighter slot to have wires come out? No?
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it!

Do you have the monster cable plugged into the ipod directly or into a docking station? Also do you have the volume on the ipod turned all the way up?

Thanks. I used some other members' installs as a reference. There are some pretty nice iPod installs floating around.

Those are RCA outputs. To run the iPod through your HU, you need an auxilary input set of RCA's coming from the HU. I would suggest disconnecting the iPod from your HU so you don't damage either unit.

I believe your headunit either has or it doesn't. If it doesn't I think your only other option would be to get a new HU or use Itrips or something similiar.

Chuck...haven't picked one up yet, so I'm still running the OEM faceplate setup.

Not overly crazy about how it turned out, but I finally got around to covering the box today.

Feedback welcome.
