Hide away unit

I have an AVIC-N1 in my 5th gen and the shop that installed it put the hideaway unit in the dash, behind the HU. It sort of makes it a PITA because I can't plug anything into it w/o taking the whole thing apart.

What steps do I need to take in order to accomplish this task. Can I just take the dash kit out to get access?

Here is a pic:

Ideally, I'd be able to drill some holes in the back of the pocket and run the cords.

Pop out the ashtray, remove the screw behind it, pop up/out the area around thi shifter, then theres 2 screws back there that hold in the whole factory bracket. Your a/c vents pop out as well, and there are the other 2 screws behind them that hold in the factory bracketing.

Just move the brain to underneath one of the front seats while your at it IMO.
