Thanks for the props!

This is pretty much the only section I hang around in anymore. I guess you could classify me as the newbie audiophile in this section. I am working on an SQ-oriented audio install, as well as some fiberglassing projects (pics below). Right now I am working on adding 500sqft. worth of deadener for a hella quiet interior, two-toning the interior, a fiberglass amp/sub rack, a custom 4-din console, and adding a bunhc of LEDs in highly non-traditional places. Oh, I also made a thread about sound deadening which was stickied, feel free tor ead it and let me know if anything should be changed/added. Lastly, I will be adding some hyper-blue intelliglo needles when I do the audio install, as well as a VERY new way to get the cluster hella-bright.

red top is for over all performance, yellow top is more for audio.

just clean the connectors, and you should do the big 3 grounding while your at it

If you wanna save money and get a solid, deep cycle battery, go to costco (you or maybe a friend have a membership) and get their house brands deep cycle marine battery...like $46. Reports of it have been stellar, and should it not work for you, Cosco is a great company when it comes to returns.

is the optima red top that much better? i never play my system without the car being on. i have about 800-850 watts rms total for my system. could i try out the kirkland (costco brand) battery and return it if i dont like it? $140 is alot for an optima red top.

Do yourself a favor- if going to replace it, go deep cycle- whether you play your music while car off or not- its insurance for leaving a clearance lights on, dome lights, door, or alarm trouble- you never know....I had my daughters first birthday on Sat at a park with friends/family and I had my system playing for 4+hours for some entertainment-damn gazebo's electrical outlets had been locked...car started right up

I agree optima is pricey, so then why overpay for a regular battery in a Red top?

Steve's recommendation is solid for the price, Theres always a YT that'll run you ~$169 and there seems to be good prices on the Kinetik(sp?) batteries on that other forum you frequent

Costco has a no ?'s asked return policy. Some have gone as far as to call this Costco battery "superior" to what they refer to as "yellow poop". Give it a shot

You can get a yearlong membership and the battery with a few cd's and a big block of cheese for the cost of the one that has the pricey "car audio" label on it.

haha thanks for the info guys. my mom has a membership to costco so ill go tomorrow. my question is: do deep cycle batteries have a lower CCA? does that matter for me with my system? and also? why do i get the marine deep cycle battery? sorry for the newb questions but id like to "git er done" right the 1st time.

Marine battery's ARE deep cycle....unless you drive a boat and want a surprise after fishing all afternoon...

CCA's dont matter as far as making one better than the other-simply get a battery that has enough CCA's to start your car- i believe, correct me if i'm wrong- 560cca is enought to start our cars, so any battery over 650-700ccas isn't going to make a difference in those regards. Cold Cranking Amps have no relation to a performance of the battery in say reserve capacity, recharge,...

I don't believe all deep cycle batteries are the same, but they essentially are. Some are obviously in some ways built differently than others. The ones Im talking about have gotten reveiws to be solid deep cycle batteries. Manny was right aboutt he CCA's , what you're looking for is reserve capacity ...maybe theres more that i'm not thinking of. All deep cycle batteries are not marine. Marine means it's meant for a boat. That's what I was talking about witht he price. Theres something about car audio that warrants a "crazy special this is high end technology" sort of price, while costco presents a no bs you're a member price on a deep cycle battery, the same thing, just being sold for a different application. No pretty lids or fancy cases. No advertising or sponsor vehicles. Just a deep cycle battery, meant for boating, but a deep cycle battery nonetheless.

There's two sizes of the batteries. The brand name is Kirkland, with the blue label. It will say 700 MCA 85 ????something about reserve... They'll prolly only have two marine deep cycle batteries. This is the smaller of the two. If you think you can get the bigger one in the car, go for it
