JL 12W6v2 ripped??? repair possible??? pic inside

Well i was just checkin out some stuff in my trunk and noticed this slit in my woofer, close too the cone its hard too tell.....but its definatly there, i dunno how longs its been there or anything.....still hits.... but i was wondering, is this something that can be repaired?? by who? JL only or is this something i could do maybe??....or is this just one step closer to being a big paper weight??? also, what might cause this???? or just being used enough?

For a ghetto fabulous fix I would try to get some tape behind it. Other than that you can find someone that works in the JL refurb department and try to become very good friends. If you've only had it a little while see if you can return it on warranty.

go get some black silicon and apply a thin layer behind it. it'll seal it up, and still remain flexible.

usually when it comes to that construction paper soaked in black silicone will work if it continues to spread and you have to get it repaired

Speaker Works can repair nearly any speaker. Please contact us directly for your specific needs.

Generally, prices are as follows:
Re-Edge $40 to $80
Recone $60 to $250
USD Audio
Great company to work with and great products.

did you buy the sub from a JL authorized dealer? Try giving them a call. Once i did, but the sub i had was stolen off of ebay, so they refused to repair it

That's scary. I have the same sub. Do you have any idea how it may have happened?

I will try the silicon/construction paper idea...see how that works.....as far as warrenty issues, i will go by where i bought it, but i bought it almost year and a half ago maybe 2 years...and woofers are only covered for a year, so i got a feelin thats the story im going to get... but alot of shops around here are are close with JL and there service/reps and factory since jl is based just a few miles from me, so maybe they will be able to cut me a break, if not, silicon here i come!.....anyone else have any other pointers? or ideas???

Oh Yea and seemy2kgo, as far as how it happined i have no idea...nor how long its been like this...was just in my trunk and noticed it, never noticed the sound diffrence ...perhaps just a fluke.....

Silicone will prolly work well. JL charges $250 for a recone on those model of subs IIRC.

well i went by a local retailed of JL round here, they told me 190 to have it sent off and reconned with 90 day warrenty from JL, which is cheaper than the 400+ this sucker costs from them....buttt......since the split sits flush with each side when not being pushed open, dont even have to apply pressure for the split to seal...sooo hopefully the sillicone idea will work!......we shall see!! ill let yall know how it turns out........

Damn, that's insane. I just spent $200 on mine, and it's in perfect condition. Good luck man.

$250 is way too much for a recone.
