P9 Combo
Has anyone owned or heard the pioneer p9 combo? I just bought it and I was wondering what you guys thought of it? Is there anything better besides alpine f#1?
yes, i have the pair in my '95 going on 3 years now and as far as SQ goes it kicks butt. don't think it's perfect though. maybe it's just me but i hate after you press the eject button and the CD pops out, you have to grab hold pretty quickly or it reloads. annoying. the mechanical eject mechanism has begun to function erradically. it takes sometimes 10-15 tries to get the CD eject mechanism to push the CD out all the way so tou can grip it and pull out the CD. it's possible that i'm just dense, but i think part in the manual on how to input speaker distances is POORLY explained.
the ejection issue could maybe be due to a dried up lubrication issue because of where i lived for 2 years. the hot and dry phoenix,az area. when i'm not lazy(yeah, right) i'm going to open her up and try putting lube in the needed spots, while keeping my fingers crossed.

Haven't owned one, but have played with one. They're just plain badazz IMO. F1 status (haven't played with it, sure it's awesome and all) is just plain out of any normal person's price range. Congrats on the great purchase. Hopefully, the install going in will match it's quality/make the most of its capabilities!
If you're looking to do a 3 way front stage (I'm assuming thats why you would want one) with the processing, youre choices are very limited. Alpine 701 add on combo has all the necessary goodies (supposedly as nice of internals/DAC converters if you're into that) so that can be a quick upgrade. The P9 combo, though, has ALL the processing goodies in a plain jane badazzed HU/processor combo...the way it should be. Other choices out there? The Clarion DRZ is a good choice though not as much EQ power, or else go external with processing. I like the all together in one package/simplicity and especially tuning up front that comes with these processors though, and of them, the P9 (minus F1), like I said, has all the goodies.
Every head unit is going to have it's nuances as far as a volume **** or how something adjusts, but as far as functionality for a SQ system
, P9 rawks!

Very nice choice. Im sure itll suit your needs perfectly. The Alpine F1 is just plain overpriced IMHO, so not even a comparison. The Clarions DRZ/DRX would be a nice competitor though.
Ill just stick to external processing.
