Very weird problem

So yesterday I was listening and messing with my system all day long. Finally I got it where I want it and now I have a loud *** buzzing sound but only when the rear channel rca's are hooked up to the amp. If they are hooked up all of the speakers make the buzzing sound. It is a VERY loud buzzing does it even at idle. If I shut the car off and leave the stereo on it seems to go away. The pitch of the sound goes higher when I accelerate, and when I turn the volume up to my max listening level I hear a POP POP sound. What could be the problem ? Could it be something with the RCA input? I tried two sets of rca cables on it already and same problem. I'm stumped someone help!

Also when I go from accessories to on or about to turn to on I hear the pop again.... grrr this is frustrating. It actually seems to still be there when I pull the rear rca's just alot more faint. hmmm lets see what else.....Swapped rca's front side to back side and still the same noice. Ground is only about 9 inches and is grounded down to the bare metal. All speaker connections seem alright, I swapped wires on the rears to see if there was any change... none.

Are you running off the H/U or a LOC?

Sounds like your RCA inputs are shorting out on your amp. If you still get the noise even with the RCA disconnected, means the amp is getting a signal from somewhere, and passing it on.

I would check all your wiring connections first, you could have a stray power wire touching your speaker output wires. If not, I would have your amp checked out.

So basically the rca inputs are severed or loose internally to the amp (probably)?

My first guess would be be loose wiring. It's amazing what one strand of power wire sticking out and touching a speaker output or remote wire can do.

If not that, then I would say RCA inputs are shot.

Well you have 3 options.

1.) Send it in to the company

2.) Find a local place that does repairs (a local shop, or Vo-Tech with an electronics class)

3.) Open it up yourself and resolder what ever needs it. Though I don't recommend if you don't know what you're doing. Not only could you mess something up, you just voided the warranty

How old is the amp, and where did you get it?

Parag...sounds like either the input stages on the amp are shot, Or the HUs outputs are shot. Try switch the outputs with a different set and see if it still does it. If so, most likely the amp inputs.

Switch the outputs rca wires? or the connector that goes to the head unit?

Has to be Amp inputs... still does the sound when he has the RCA disconnected from the amp... just not as loud.

The RCAs @ the HU. ie: if the noise is from the fronts only, switch your front and rear RCAs. If the problem remains, its most likely the amp. If it goes away then most likely the HU.

True, I wonder if they plan on shutting down that line, I noticed our dealer is selling them like candy.

They did get in the Anniversary edition subs If I had the money I'd show those off in the back of my Highlander.

I wish JBL would make something like the Bass Link T. That way my Highlander would have all JBL. We did look at the JBLs enclosed stuff, but the Bass Link T will fit across the back of the seats, and still allow us to have Cargo room.

I would do it myself... but I've just gotten lazy over the past years. I'll install everyone elses'... but not my own anymore. It's weird

With the rca's disconnected no buzzing. With the rca's swapped, same sound.

Don, got any good deals on a high quality 4 channel amp? Prefferably 75 - 100 rms x 4.

I'll have to think about that one... I liked how the Infinity would tuck behind the seats. But I'd rather have a complete JBL system (since it came from the factory with it)

Well I stopped by my favorite store in all of SD. (if you need a clue as to what that is, take a look at my frontier site) I looked at the dimesions online, and there was some concern it wouldn't fit where we wanted it, so I remember seeing a Basslink T sitting on their floor. So why not go down and see if it fits.

He's going to be giving me a really good deal, online they're $499, they're selling theirs for $439, he's going to sell it to me for $400 even. Of course, I am getting a really nice DVD system put in the Highlander as well. Not to mention that I'm also getting 2 amps, and a $400 multi sync component set for my truck.

So this upcoming tax return season I'm spending around $2500-$3000 there. Not to mention I have to get new struts and springs for my Max

Alright, I've figured out a little bit more about my problem. First (bear with me here) I have my fogs wired so that they come on whenever the key goes from acc or anything else besides off, and I keep them on all the time. I noticed that if I turn on my stereo that I would get the whine. When I turned on my headlights the whine got louder. Now I just figured out today that with the headlights and fog lights off, the sounds is MUCH more faint. How is this possible? What can be the cause of this? How do I fix this?
