quick fuse question...

Well...I currently have a 60 amp fuse under the hood on the main power cable. I will be running a distro block with ANL fuse holders. My fosgate amp requires a 60 amp fuse, and the amp I will be getting needs a 90 amp fuse. Question is...do I just get a bigger fuse under the hood and run smaller ANL fuses on the distro block? Is there a forumula or something that helps you figure out what amperage fuse go where along the power path?

any insights appreciated

The amp will only draw as much power as it needs...consider it a floodgate.

The gates only open to allow the water it NEEDS, even if there is more than enough behind it.

Out of the distro, simply fuse each power wire with the proper fuse and you'll be right as rain.

you can upgrade it wont hurt. Personally i would just incase. But basically if anything happens its gonne pop the fuse in the distro. Instead of the one at the battery.

While we're on the fuse subject. Does anybody know the fuse for the light in the ignition ring?

go with 80 amp gordon under the hood...80 amps being pulled from 4 gauge is not a problem. depending on which sub amp you have it should be a high enough fuse rating.

You may not need a bigger fuse at all. The worst thing that will happen is you will blow it. Both my fosgate amps suggest 60 amp fuses each but they share a 60 at the battery and have never blown it. One is running 2 ohm stereo and one is running at 4ohm mono. At the distro block I had a 30 amp fuse on each amplifier until the sub amp blew its. I now have a 60 going to it at the distro block and the 30 going to the other one still. But combined they still don't blow the 60 amp fuse at the battery. RF class A/B amps must be really efficient.

Because we deal with car stereo, and electronics along those lines (radar detectors, nav units, mobile video, etc...) Try going up to the 4th gen forum. Though I must warn you about some of the ricer wannabes in that area.

and the biggest thing kpr10is is getting upset about is the fact you can MAKE your own thread, instead of jacking someone elses.

Aren't fuses, L.E.D'S considered electronics? If you want "radar detectors, nav units, mobile video, etc..." as a forum you should put that. And I though I would ask a quick question about a fuse if that is the topic of the thread.

Start your own thread man. You will get more responses. More people will see your question. Maybe the people in this thread don't know the answer to your question.

*puts water on fire*

i don't think it's a fuse problem if only the ignition ring light is out. several things are usually linked up to a fuse, not just a single tiny bulb.

Hey newb, not to be a d!ck, but this is your friendly warning to the org. Say this to any of the 4th or 5th gen guys, or ***** up other peoples threads with your newb questions in there, and Ill put money on you getting a vacation. We have a point. Not only that, how hard is it to test your own fuses, honestly?

If I had a quick question I don't see what the d**n problem is. As to my comment on me getting ignored, I see it doesn't take much to get a couple of losers that live in their mother's basement ticked off. I made a little question about me getting ignored to get my question across and I get flamed by a bunch of Dungeons and Dragons players trying to talk big on the forum.

wow... you live in your mother's basement, and play D&D... how 80s... :

Not only are you flirting with a vacation... your acting like that D&D playing, mother's basement *****... trying to gain what's left of your pride because you know we all were right.

Not only that, you're so self centered you didn't even take the advice that was given to try the 4th gen forum.

And like I stated before, we're annoyed because you thread jacked, with a question that doesn't even remotely come close to the topic on hand. All you had to do was start a new thread. We expect this behavior of yours from newbs with less than 15 posts, not people who've been on here for awhile.

I have never played D&D. But how did you know I lived in my mothers basement?

Seriously, get over it and move on. In a month we will have all forgetten about this. Play by the rules is all we are saying. And when you don't, then wonder why we ignore you, then get your man panties in a wad, don't be shocked. Unless your into that kind of thing?

I tried to help him out. I tried to give him a kind nudge in the right direction. I really think he doesn't like me.

Well to get this back on topic. It seems that the consensus is to use a 80-90 Amp on the cable running to the distribution block, but what about the cables running from the block to the amps, that seemed to be the second part of his question....does he use what the amp recommends? or can he go smaller since technically there's a larger fuse up the line? I'm curious as well because i'm going from a single amp to multiple amps as well
