my guess for the hardest hitting 10 would probably have to be the JL 10W7. Those things hiiit for a 10.

depends on what you define as hard hitting...put any 10 sealed in a qtc of like .9 or above and hard hitting will be easily achieved due to the boost at 50hz and way up. i prefer some sick low end in my music.

i have two 10w7's and they hit pretty darn hard.. i'm pushing each with its own phoenix gold zx600ti amps.
other set ups i've tried included the alpine v12 series amps and i forgot the subwoofer model. and two jl 12w6 pushed with the zx600ti amp and a single alumapro alchemy 12" dual voice coil pushed by the same amp..

i thought the alchemy sounded the best, hits nice and low, with good bass response...

i'm a fan of sealed boxes because the bass is a bit tighter, but if you're going for spl then go ported.

You can also check out AudioQue, which is kind of a "sister" (using the term lightly, as not to go into details, though Im sure Ill be corrected) company to DD.

Would two JL 10W6V2 hit harder and sound better than 1 JL10W7?
Don, what other options are out there? Arc Flatline? Eclipse Alum? You have anything in stock?

More brand names ... ugh.

Get a decent sub and build the PERFECT box for it. Consult with the manufacturer as to your liking (more low end, more punch, more overall dB) and they will tell you what type of box and give you ideal enclosure volume. Follow that to a "T" and you will be happy.

I had 2 8+ year old Infinity Kappa 10's in about 1.08 cu.ft. chamber (each) and people had a hard time believing they were 10's.

Short story ... if you're not competing and just want some loudness, get any 10 you can find that will hold ~200-300 watts and build the perfect box for it. You'll love it.

but just to emphasize more on Big Ham's post...a proper box is VERY important. it can make or break how a sub sounds. you can get all these "hard hitting 10's" you want, but put them in a crap box...they won't perform optimally.

While you're at it, and just as important, is how you get those bass frequencies into the passenger compartment. Box construction and box placement go hand in hand.

dvc just means dual voice coil. it doesn't relate to sound output/performance, but more-so towards wiring flexibility and power handling of the sub.

true, that's why someone should plan a little ahead before randomly buying subs.

actually the fosgates were the dvcs. from there they split into the different lines hx hx2 and xlcs. The DVCs were their best line ever (And ive been a fosgate man till they were whored out). The power dvcs while being monstrous had tinsel lead problems where they didnt match the excursion and pulled loose from the woofers. I had four of the gate dvcs in a false floor with an old school zapco mono block, switched to a phoenix 600ti, then to two power 800s, then to four orion 12s, then 4 12w6s, and then four type rs....ahh i miss those days...

It wasn't that long ago that his name was FosgateFan, was it? I guess I've been here a lot longer that I thought. (Or maybe it's just that I'm getting old...I forget).
