Installer Pricing and Yada Yada Yada...

I had repleaced my Bose headunit myself a couple of years ago in my ('91 SE), but kept the speakers using a Peripheral interface kit. Does the trick, but doesn't sound particularly good. Going to change out the speakers now too (F&B), add a 6 disc changer, a 4ch amp, and a new headunit. Installer quoted me $250 to do it all. Said the MAX would need to be rewired completely. Question 1: Fair Price to install those 5 components and rewire?
Other issue is the front door enclosures. I don't want to get into competition mods or anything, just thought it would be easy enough to get 4x6's and slap 'em on in the front. Sales guy says, it doesn't matter if it's 4x6 or 6 1/2 in the front because housing will have to be modified regardless, so I should choose a good 3 way for the fronts. Though, when I cornered his own installer, he said that I wouldn't need any modification to the housing if I go with a 4x6 in the front. My instincts tell me to listen to the installer.
Question 2: Yes/No/Alternatives?
The main thing here is MONEY. I know I can put whatever the hell I want in the doors, but I don't want to pay for the mods. Just putting together a little system that will do the job. It's a real mix and match set of components that I have, so pricey mods just wouldn't be worth it to me.
Really appreciate your time and thoughts. THANK YOU ALL!
Okay...I'll humor you with my pathetic system to be:
Kenwood KRC-705 Cassette w/MASK (I'm a tape ****)
Jenson 6 Disc CD changer w/remote
Mobile Authority "Thump" 4ch x 75 AMP
Soundstorm Labs 6x9 3way 4Ohm 350w Max (rear)
Infinity Kappa 462.1cf 4x6 plates 120w (front)

Well, since you have the BOSE, to a degree, it will have to be modified. Not an overhual though. He is right about compleately rewiring the car. New speaker wires will have to be routed and everything. There is quite a bit of work to do, but if you search around, you might be able to find it cheaper. He would probably need it most of the day, to do everything you're wanting, and $50 an hour is about right, so he's on the mark.....
