Rainbow Germanium

I was looking around on Rainbows website and noticed that the Germaniums use the Cal 25 Silk Tweeters:

Click on technical data on the right hand side menu.

Suxor. They look awesome..... I guess we will just have to buy the Cal25 silks seperately and go active.

If I remember correctly, that's what I got to demo in your Honda, right? I really loved those.

A def shame. Although I didn't get to read any of the reviews, those caught my eye before any of the others in my price range.

Yeah they are not f'n around...they revised and chambered the Cal25, and theres a freggin' shorting ring in the motor of the mid...for the price range thats one hell of a set. AND theres a 2ohm version--the 465.25...that takes double the power...

I can't emagine an even higher volume coupled with lower distortion from those tweets. I really wish they were coming here. Anyone know why they are keeping it in Europe only? A pair of the 2ohm kickbass versions would have absolute posibilities with a XXK-4150@160x4.

On a side note. Manny, do you have any good reading on the effects of the copper shorting ring. I am very interested in learning more about thos additional technology.

Also, do the vents in the voice coil former serve as a method of heat dissipation? Does it effect the output at all?

Chris
well considering the Vifa clone Alpine F1 components., at $4k....mid uses multiple copper shorting rings in the motor....
Its simply one of those subtleties that shows that thought and $$ was put behind a speaker design. For $400 set, you wont find too many comps out in the market offering things like that. There hasn't been a drastic breakthrough in speaker design in the longest, so those are the lil' things that count, and account for quality drivers.
It reduces intermodular distortion , the by product of the motor in relation to its excursion movement/travel.

Other than the lowest of lines which are solid performers IMO, you can see under the 'Technology' link of a specific comp set what Rainbow sports in their speakers. People wonder why they cost what they do and what makes them so speacial- well for one they have a high end approach in the design of their speakers...across the budgets, the materials get better, finer...

IIRC it does not lower output at all.

Awesome. I don't know why I am so interested in the specific designs of motor and loudspeaker technologies, it is just stimulating.

Thanks for the info Manny!

I have seen that many times, but was hoping to find one a bit cheaper. Maybe I can find someone to buy it for my birthday. I did buy the Car Stereo Cookbook about 2 years ago and one of my cats knocked a glass of water on it.
