Use old setup, or start fresh?

I've been pondering this for a few days now. I'm trying to decide how extreme I want to go. I'm kind of concerned about weight factor, but I don't race my Max any more. So I'm going more for looks.

I already have the 4 Memphis M-Class subs. But I could possibly sell them with my old setup out of my Frontier.

Well I decided on one of 2 possible setups for the Memphis.

1. Doing a wide \/ with a section toward the point cut off and sloped to mount the amp on. This would require building the box to have 2 seperate chambers since I want a vented box

2. Doing a wide \/ as before, but cutting the tip off, so it looks like this

\---/
-\_/

at the end of it I would mount the amp, and put a vent either above or below the amp.

As for the Illusion Subs, I have 2 idea for them.

1. Build a whole entire box against the seat. With amp rack and vent

2. Build 2 seperate single boxes into the side pockets, with a amp rack floor section connecting them.

These will allow me to still use the trunk. (But what do I need it for? I've got a Highlander and Colorado

I'd say get the Illusions, and maybe go with a nice front stage, like DYNAUDIO LOL

Goodness gracious Don, how the heck do you carry ALMOST everything?

Well my interior is already done, that was something I spent a good amount of time deciding on.

I guess I have to wait and see if anyone will buy my WHOLE setup. If the guy only wants the box, I might have to go with the Memphis setup.

Hmmm..... did you ever get a chance to play with those new M1s?

If Illusion isn't really available, and I can get the guy to buy my whole setup, I might get a set of M1s... or maybe the 40th anniversary edition subs.... ohh those babies are perty..

Well the truck was supposed to be all Memphis.... but I traded that baby in

Well I've got JVC H/U, Clarion speakers,

Well Infinity is out of the question, the Bass Link T is going in the Highlander, and that already has JBL.

So.... maybe one of the following

Polk db
Soundsplinter (those complete black faces looked cool)
MB Quart
Xtant

Out of the above, I like none. With the exception of maybe SS.

As far as the Basslink T...look at: http://www.dlsamerica.com/speakers/asb310.htm aside from a few other options. BTW, yes I do have Polk,Infinty,MBQ and Xtant available to me, so nothing biased here. Although MBQ is currently in alot of production problems due to the flooding they got hit with.

There's a few reasons why the Bass Link T

1. it fits PERFECTLY across the back seats
2. allows almost full use of the back
3. isn't too loud for the kids

I've been a Polk db fan for years, though the quality has somewhat stangnated since the series I sold. They used to be like rocks.

Xtant has that unique cone design.

SS looks sweet as I stated.

I was thinking of doing a inverted setup... with the cones pointed toward the little side pockets in the trunk, and the amp mounted inbetween them. Though for this I need something that has a SWEET basket design, that's why I thought of the 40th anniversary subs.

Hi Fonics has some nice one, but a little TOO much logo placing for my tastes.

pretty common basket design. nothing too fancy though. that aluminum part near the pole vent can be polished for a better shine if you wish.

I like it... goes great with the black interior. I'll keep it in mind. This whole thing might down at tax return, but dental expense might put that on hold. I'll just have to see.

I've narrowed down to different box designs, one for each setup. Be it 4 Memphis, or 2 different brands.

The only thing is, for the 2nd option, I have to a basket design that looks nice. So now it's the search for the awesome basket design from a sub that is worth buying.

DON?!?!?!?!?!

well I'm going to talk to the guys down at Mobile FX and see if they'll put the whole thing in their store front to be sold as a set. But I want to wait and see if this guy will buy them first.

hmm... I talked to the Mobile FX earlier.

They had the regional dealer come down earlier, and he never knew that Memphis had the 40th anniversary subs, or came gold plated. There are only a 100 of them that were made, so only 50 sets. I would get them, but I'd put the box on display in my house, instead of using them.

And let me guess, I'm giong to have to start up a thread asking for basket pics aren't I?

ehh. some places seem to have gaps in that. Like Memphis doesn't show baskets on most of their stuff. HiFonics doesn't have pictures of some of their line.

Besides, it's funny seeing people's fingers and hands...

So what do you think of the line up so far? The wife narrowed it down to Xtant and Power Acoustik. But I'm not sure on PA's performance, I've never dealt with them, at least not that I can remember

After much dileberation, and I have decided on what I'm going to get. (probably to the relief of Don)

2 Power Acoustik Fubar 12Ws http://www.cardomain.com/item/POWFUBAR12W
1 Power Acoustik A2400DB Amp http://www.cardomain.com/item/POWA2400DB

The subs will be inverted pointing into the side pockets of my trunk, with the amp mounted between them. I'm drawing out the plans as I type this. I will be making this box myself. It will mostly be made with 3/4" MDF, but I might use some fiberglass to smooth some angles.

btw Don, you got a PM

I would never own a Power Acoustics product. My best friend here in Gainesville had 2 seperate amps catch on fire in his ranger. Both times it took them better than 2 months to get it warranteed. I urge you to keep looking. You will be better off. I promise.

jokin guys. I remember busting PA subs for fun. I'm still looking. I just pm Don to really give him a headache. Poor Ascendant had to be like when I sent him that IM. Really convincing when I told him I would just paint the amp to give it better visual appeal.

I'm honestly thinking about Xtant... but those suckers $$$$$. I'm still milling over the fact of what I want.

I'll probably still have my Memphis MC500D left over, so I want to get something it will push. Or if I go combo, the amp has to look good. I'm going for function and visual

I can only tell you my experience with the products you mention. I have owned the Xtant1001d. Had it in my 3rd gen running 3 Solobaric 12's. It blew after 6months of use. I sent it back, they not only fixed it but added a few factory upgrades to the board. I was thrilled. Worked fine until I killed the 3rd gen. I sold it. It blew again with it's new owner. Althought the service I recieved was above average, I wish it would have worked a bit longer. I give them a 5 on reliability and 10 on service and support.

Don... I need a basket shot of a ARC KAR 12S4 My Memphis amp wouldn't have a problem pushing those. Though it could push 2 Extreme, it would require a lot of effort on it's part. And I feel bad enough making it push those 4 12"s

Arc KAR 900.1D
