Maxima lover

I was having problems with my volume control on my bose, I tried to fix it on night and wasn't careful and ruined it (smoked and nothing would work on it). I then bought one off of Ebay that just needed a faceplate because it was missing some buttons and I was going to put my old one on there. Well this one off of Ebay has the error problem. It is out of a 1997 and I have been searching for the last hour and can't find out how to fix the 97-98 units with the "err" problem, just the 95-96's

Please don't tell me I need to get rid of the Bose and put a whole new system in their. I am going to stick with the Bose because I don't have enough money to put into a new CD player and all the parts to make it work with the Bose speakers. I also don't want to have to worry about it getting stolen at my school.
