Equalization Options??? Active soon...

Alright Heres the run down.

Currently I am running a Deh80mp. My promotion gift to myself is either going to be a head unit (8455 or the 860). I will also be doing my component set for the kick panels (More than likely another set of diamond hex's). This brings me to the point of equalization.

Ive been lurking on a couple of other forums for awhile, and My selection choices come up as the below. The H701 has been talked up to no end, but knowing the quality drop on the newer alpine units im looking to avoid them . Also I have a wholesale acct on audio control as well as alpine, so it wouldnt be SOOOO bad on pricing (Pretty damn good on the audio control stuff actually), and sadly after the alto fiasco Dan is going through, I dont want to take a chance. So help a brother out and feel free to interject opinions, Ideas or whatever, I need help.

Audio Control DQS
<--No sub sonic filter, but I would look to use an epic 160 and or a 3.1 for the sub control.

Audio Control DQXS
Additionally AudioControl has equipped the DQXS with a full 3-way electronic crossover. A user has the to ability send signals to front highpass, front bandpass, rear highpass and subwoofer outputs. An exclusive AudioControl feature, the Programmable Frequency Match ( PFM ) subsonic filter is also provided to minimize any infrasonic signals from compromising the performance of the system. Given that the DQXS is digitally controlled, a user can easily select crossover points in precise 1/12-octave increments.

PXA-H701
• Auto/Manual Time Correction
• 8ch Independent Time Correction: (Front 1L/R, Front 2L/R, Rear L/R, Centre, Subwoofer)
• 165 Band Graphic EQ (Front L/R: 31 Bands, Rear L/R: 31 Bands, Centre: 31 Bands, Subwoofer: 10 Bands) or 27 Band Parametric EQ (Front L/R: 5 Bands, Rear L/R: 5 Bands, Centre: 5 Bands, Subwoofer: 2 Bands)
• MediaXpander
• Dolby Digital
• Dolby PRO LOGIC II
• DTS
• 3-Optical Digital Inputs

The alpine looks good but the option of radios dims that ida really...
Front stage will be finished with a diamond audio hex set with silk domes in the kicks, and its looking like 8w0s in the doors, may go with some DIY woofers, but impatient, and the 8w0s are here..

Thanks.
doug.

DVA 9860 would run digital out to the 701 and serve as a controller. The two are essentially made for each other. You can run digital back to the controller.

Are you going two way front or three way? I admit I don't know anything about the HU you're using now or the 860, but if you're just going two way front and a sub, wanna go active and have equalization, why not just go w/ one of the Eclipse head units (like the 8455 you mentioned)...The no need for any external processor.

If you're going three way front, then thats when it's time to start comparing the P9 combo, Alpine combo, DRZ 9255, etc.....

im sticking with an 8 in the door and a component set in the kick. I used a p1r previously and was happy with it To a point. The eclipse deck i swapped it for was a much cleaner sound though, but again the external audio control components were needed. So i dont know. From there I went to the dvd in dash from pioneer then to the one i have now.
It sounds cleaner with the new amp, but i need a little more control and with the p1r it wasnt enough to tweak, so that was why i was looking to add an external processor again.
I have read up on the eclipses but unsure of the flexibility of the indash units. (Local shop dropped eclipse so no way to test, )

Ahhh...8 in the door w/ a comp set in kicks, huh...Well you could use the Eclipse, but you'd have to run the comps set off the passives and you'd have bands of eQing for the comp set, for the midbasses in doors. Otherwise, if you wanna go all active, you'd have to look into one of the three way options.

lol alright. Which of the above do you recommend? I have a good deal on the audio control stuff and have used their eqx's 24x in the past and was happy. Looking to go with one of the digital options. Truthfully it sounds good on the h/u thats in there now and Id hate to change to the new speakers and be lacking cause as it stands now I have no adjustability outside of the slight q, small eq, functions on the unit i have now.

DON'T GO WITH ALOTMOBILE!!!!

Don has also reported that ground noise has been an issue with the Audio Control DQS, another kick in dee nutz for digital control.

I am waiting to get the scoop from Don on what is worth getting after CES.

Although we've established that alpine sucks on this forum, I'd recommend the alpine combo/setup given the options that are out there now. Tons of control from up front...just hard to beat....

I'm open to new options after CES too, but I just don't see stuff coming out with all the processing power of the Alpine at that price point. Hopefully I'll be wrong. Unfortunately, theres not much of a market for high end x/o/eq's. those who are gung ho about running a 3 way front and getting the best SQ are real into it, but there's not many of us out there. Most Alpine dealers don't even know what the 701 combo did, and my local shop was trying to sell me a P9 combo for over 2G, but wasnt' sure exactly what it did or why it was worth the money.

I'm going to give the Alto another try; if that fails again and I cannot defeat the grounding issue, I am likley to go with the 701 as well...but the $500 pricetag is teh suck.

I would avoid the pioneer 860. I've gone through two of them still have both, and both had/have noise issues with the preouts. Hopefully i can sell the second one i have.... want it hehe it curently needs repair to fix the preout issues?

Stay away, but if you get lucky it is a great unit, and in pro mode you can run high pass, low pass and bandpass the mid frequency.

I have a local guy that could take care of that dependent on what your asking for for it that would be more on my components. I was considering just getting another p1r, but my understanding is this is pretty much the same unit. SO thats cool. Quanto para todo?

Dan
I hear you. Your the reason i have the extra money sitting, after your devaucle I dont think ill be stepping anywhere near the alto. Didnt know that on the dqs, thanks for the heads up. The alpine combo looks like its in the lead, that would give me a beautiful setup in as that it would let me get the ps2 out of the glovebox, but im back to a whack headunit...2 volt out

My pleasure. I hate being Mr. Alpine....but it's a good unit for the price with what it gives you. I do wanna also get the C701 though ( even thought the 9860 will tune it) just cause it's easier to tune with and I have a real cool place to hide it
