Anyone have experience with these subs? i will be running 1 kenwood 1800 watt amp to each sub. Is this possibly overkill. I am not a newbie when it comes to audio, just never heard these things in action. Also any suggestions. i will also be using a 1 farrad cap and a rockford fosgate preamp (pa2) and 4ga wire. i should probably run 1 or 2 gauge though huh.

They'll be fine. Indeed you will need to run 1/0 in order to sufficently power everything, not to mention you are going to need a HUGE box in order to have them tuned correctly. The cap is not going to really do much of anything, you're better off upgrading your battery and running the big three...or possibly a batcap in order to sufficently power those things.

Are you going for SPL competition or something? Those subs are SPL overkill, man...

it'll get stupid loud thats for sure. and i'd run something bigger than 4 gauge if you really plan on using two high power amps.

Nice subs.. If you're looking to rattle some dishes in the neighbour's kitchen cabinets, these will certainly do the trick. I've run a pair of Eclipse Aluminum 15"s in a ported box before upgrading to a set of Titanium 12"s.
As for the wiring, 4 should be sufficient, may want to look to Alumapro for a bigger cap, and perhaps look into going with a high output alternator.

should i go sealed or ported? sealed requires more power but i will have more space, and ported requires less power and will take up more space. hummmm, do you think this will be loud enough.

Ported if you want it louder, plus the 6th gen has a pretty big trunk. I was eying a 12 inch Ti eclipse and kicker amp in the for sale forum, I just havent decided if I wanna add that much more weight to the max.

i would like to have a ported box but i think the required space for that enclosure is like 6cubic feet. that is a big freakin box. however i do want that bass that seems like you have your a/c on full blast.

personally you have to look at the efficiency increase with the ported box, problem is the size increase is HUGE. THe ti is a SICK woofer so I think either way it will be enough power. amp selection :bleh: but woofers :HELLYEAH:

Having done both, I'd say go sealed. With ported, you're looking at a box that will take up most of your trunk, and if you go with 3/4" or 1" MDF, you could easily be adding close to 60-70lbs by the enclosure alone. Add what, about 40lbs per sub(or more,) and another 15-20 per amp, and it will definitely add up.

yeah, a ported box made from mdf can get pretty heavy. birch is always an option if you want to save some weight. but it's more expensive than mdf.

well i will be going with the sealed. i took my car in for measurements and the guy takes the measurements and then askes what kind of subs i have and i tell him, then he says i think i am going to pass on this project, WTF. i don,t know but this guy is like afraid to work on my car. i tried to get him to hook up an amp in my car like a while back he he said i am going to have to pass on that one to. normally i do this myself but i did not want to have to drill threw the firewall. Anyways after about fifteen minutes of talking he said he might be able to do two single boxes for these things. apparently there massive freakin speakers. Any comments on box design?

sealed is a bit more forgiving than ported. but go with a large box to have better low end extension, a smaller one for a little more emphasis on the upper bass.

but about that guy doing the install...if he's not comfortable doing it for you, take the job somewhere else. seems like he'll screw something up...

excellent choice in subs. i have an aluminum right now, and theres a Ti for sale in the audio FS sec im planning on purchasing, then ima sell my aluminum.

1800watts to each sub is a little over kill, they're rated 750w rms and i wanna say 1500w peak... but yeah, your headlights will drain with that much power prolly, you should upgrade your big 3

Those subs will sound amazing. I had a pair of 12" aluminum sealed with 600 real watts RMS each and they were earsplitting. They also surprised me by sounding much better than I thought they would.

"Real" meaning clean low THD RMS figures as opposed to a highly distorted "peak" clipped signal as published by some manufacturers that destroys equipment. Old Schol SoundStream Reference type watts as opposed to Legacy or Boss watts.

Think what you like, all watts are not created equal. At least I don't believe so and you probably really don't either.

By your posts that I have read you seem to be pretty knowledgeable of automotive audio so either I did a crappy job explaining myself or you understand my meaning fully and are just being a jerk. Either way, I think the original poster probably understood what I meant perfectly well.

Sorry, maxmale - I didn't mean to jack your thread by participating in childish "I-know-more-than-you BS". I hope you like your setup.

BTW, I do believe a watt is watt, its other factors that come into play when comparing.

If your gonna post in this section, you should expect some ball busting at times. It will happen, and surely not just by me.

But if you really think all watts are the same, I'll trade you your wimpy 640 watt Arc Audio 4150-XXK for this http://www.lanzar.com/itempage.asp?MODEL=VIBE286 super-cool beefy 4000 watt Lanzar one any day of the week.
