enclosure help-Port diameter

Alright,
laugh if you will i care not
I have a kove armageddon z series sub. Box was designed for an earthquake dbxr12, which i sold and just stuck the kove in. The current enclosure is 2.42 cubes with a 2.50 wide inch port 14 inches high 37 inches long.

What im curious about is the Kove website and parts express describe a box of 2.75 cubes with two radically different ports
Parts express says
"Recommended enclosure designs include a 2.75 cu. ft. vented box with a 5" diameter port 13" long for outrageous output levels"
Kove calls for
12x1.75x18 Port Kove SPecs

Now my goal is to get a little bit more spl out of the enclosure *which is powered by a mtx 1501d*, without sacrificing much sq. MOre sql basically. Can anyone see a 5 inch port being THAT much gain from what i have now?

Comments ideas?

this is one that i came across and its got me curious. My current port is 2.5, that appears to be the above listed specs...

my current enclosure is tuned to 32 hz.
cant believe I left that part out. Its got VERY good output but if I can get more
Thats the crossroad im at now. Currently its able to drown out my front staging if i really get obnoxious, and Im really curious if i can extract more noise.

tune it a bit higher...to 40 or somewhere in that ball park. my old brahma box was tuned to 28 hz, not really for spl, but for a bit more sq. the guy that bought the brahma from me had it in a box tuned higher. output didn't go as deep, but it was noticebly louder.

Thats just means you need a better frontstage.
