questions about new system setup

this is probably a newbie question but im gonna ask it anyway since you guys know what your talking about lol. anyway, im thinking about changing up my system ... i have said in other threads my system is an alpine head unit (older model probably from last year no mp3 playback) (not sure the model number) 1 12'' pioneer premier sub and a power acoustik amp. i want to put in a pioneer head unit (dont know the model number but its the $180 model right below the $220 model with the screen saver) i also wanted to put in 2 mtx subs and cdt speakers/tweeters as reccomended by some of you out there. first off should i go with 2 10's or 2 12's? and while staying reasonable in price what kind of amp should i use... should i get 2 amps? how many channels for the amp(s)? thanks.

a box for two 10s will obviously take up less space than a pair of 12s. so, it really comes down to how much trunk space you're willing to give up. and yeah you should get an amp for your subs, and another one dedicated to powering your CDT's. components really come alive when properly amped, and not just powered off the head unit.

channel wise, you can go with 1 or 2 for the subs, and 4 or 2 for your interior speakers. whats your budget?

alrighty...ditch those MTX idea and go with a pair of RL-i 10's or the RL-p 12s. it'll be much better than those MTX, plus they're geared towards SQ.

but since you're in jersey...i'd drive to Pearl's shop and have a chit chat with him. i'm sure he'll hook you up with something better than those MTX...

With the right setup one 12 done properly in a ported box would probably tear those MTX's apart. With minimal power to boot.

Not without modification, IIRC only an 8 inch will fit if you have the bose. It's going to come down to personal preference as far as speakers/subs etc go. But we can do as much as possible to lend a hand.

hmm...a pair of 10" RL-i's for about ~350 shipped. you have about 350 left over for a nice amp.

http://www.soundsplinter.com/rlp_pre...subwoofer.html

then contact Pearl96Max to see what he can help you with in terms of an amp.

eh, it's best to build them to spec, but if you can't build one or find someone to make you one...i guess those circuit city boxes will work as a last resort.

and the armageddons are nice choice as well

Mike over at Soundplinter told me .75 cubic feet for the 10" sub. I've had mine for a while now. I thought about getting a 12", but I'm still happy with the 10". I am running a little under 400 watts RMS to it.
