Compatible brackets for D1/GXE Kit?
Compatible brackets for D1/GXE Kit?
Hey im gettin the GXE Kit but in order for my AVIC-D1 to be flush with the kit, do i not need the stock Bose brackets? The brackets that come with the unit seem to cause for it to sitck out which requires the black plastic frame that goes around it. Where i can find brakets that will be compatible with the GXE kit?
Yes you will need the stock brackets. I had that unit briefly but wasnt happy with the iPod interface so I returned it. It looked great while I had it though. You'll have a small gap under the unit even with the GXE trim. The navigation is not that great either.

And no, it doesn't come with specific brackets. It mounts in the factory DIN brackets in your dash, holding your current stereo.

Pretty sure that's what others have done. I never did it because the little bit that stuck out never bothered me.
Once you take the dash apart, and get ready to install the new unit you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.
The brackets will have holes, the unit will have holes. You can't really change the holes on the unit, but you can drill new ones in the brackets (further back if you like) to reposition the unit.

The iPod interface is way too slow for my taste. The text information is partial. I was just not happy after all that money i spent. So now, I'm waiting a couple of weeks and getting the Alpine IVA-W200. Check out their website, www.alpine-usa.com, and click on the iPod Full Speed Demo. Clarion is also coming out with a unit mid summer with similiar iPod interface. No NAV on these units. The alpine is HD, and Bluetooth ready (additional purchases), so that made up my mind.

As for getting the brackets off, my best advice is to find the most powerful drill you can, put it on the highest torque setting, and put your weight into the drill when you let it loose.
I didn't have any problems getting mine out that way.
hey TXT-1 ... u know what i mean dontcha with my unit sticking out the way it does (if you remember the pics) ... "picture frame" n what not. ill just wait for the GXE Kit n take it from there ... thanks for the clarification yall ..
