Need some help picking a sub please.

So i have decided to add a sub to my '01 Max SE w/ Bose. I am going to keep the bose though and just add a sub. I listen to mostly dance, house and POP music. I need something that produces an accurate, tight, and powerful bass. I will need a sub, box, and an amp since I dont have anything yet. My budget is $400-$500 for this project. So can you guys please help me pick something out since I have no clue when it comes to car audio. Thank you so much.

how much trunk space do you want to lose? and also...perhaps you should disconnect the bose sub because it sucks at life.

oh yea absolutely. I forgot to mention that one of the things that inspired me is the constant rattle and uselessness of the bose sub! I want some nice tight accurate chest-pounding bass! I will be def. disconnecting the bose sub.

I did not think I could get anything good for around $400 because I spoke with Don earlier so hopefully he will respond to this thread with his recommends as well. In terms of trunk space I would like to keep as much as psible obviousl.y. I def. want to keep my spare tire there.

feed a 12" soundsplinter rl-p with around 700 watts in a 1.0 to 1.2 cu ft net sealed box. very accurate sub for the money IMO. i listen to a lot of trance and dance music as well, and the sub has no issues keeping up with the quick beats.

for tight bass go about 1.2cuft and about 500 watts rms and you are set.

guys I am a complete newb to this so I have no idea when it comes to this stuff what you are talking about lol. So I need some links to the exact box and amp you guys are talking about lol sorry. I'm still contemplating doing the install myself but more than likely I will have Don do it. I think he recommended a DLS Powered box or something but I cant recall and I Cant find any info on the web about it.

Also how do the two subs above differ? And which amp and box should I be getting, and hwo much should I expect to spend for each? I really need your help guys because I dont have a clue and I want to get good quality stuff not jut boomie bass for the money, and I dont want to get screwed at a local shop. Thank you everyone for your time and help.

I will but I just wanted to get more people's opnion on what they are running and such... And yea that is the one! Thing is I have never seen any1 get something like it here on the org, and it is 10" and vented. Would 10" be enough power for me? I was thinking I would need something like 12" and sealed?

Also I can't seem to find any info on the DLS ASB310 anywhere! Not even on tihs forum or any reviews. The only thing I can find is that a lot of people recommend the Iridium 6.2 speakers, but nothing about this powered box.

*EDIT* In addition, I was tihnking of maybe getting one of these JL AUDIO 10W3v2 D4? Or would the DSL ASB310 simply blow that one away? And how does it compare to th eones listed above?

Also I can't seem to find any reviews on this thing anywhere.

No point in sending a price if its not what you want.

Ported will still play what you listen to just fine.

A 10 will move plenty of air, but if you want larger Ill look into something else.

Don it is def. something I am considering but I mean I would like to know the price as well. Also the fact that i dont have any experience makes it hard for me to decide if I want something bigger or not I can just go by posts. and most of the tim eI see people asking should I get 2 10s or 1 12" etc...

Also I understand ported will play wha tI want fine, but I mean isn't a sealed box made specifically for this kinda stuff. Like tight and accurate bass?

*EDIT* Also how do you think it compares to the ones above? And the usual JL Audio subs like the W6. Also why is it that i can't find any reviews on this thing? Im trying to hear from pepole who actua;lly have this installed and I can not find any!

I see. Would that be with you installing it?
Also it comes with a good amp right? Because I understand that is important also? And do you tihnk if I ever want to upgrade that headunit like we discussed I would still be able to keep this thing? Basically do you think it is something that I would want to upgrade?

And what do you think about the DLS MW12?

I dont think youll need to upgrade anytime soon.

The MW112 is a decent sub for the money, but would hit around $185ish, then you still need and amp and enclosure. Totaling about the same if not more, most likely more.

I see. Do you think it is worth it to get the 112 even if its a little more or not really? Also would there be a difference between that and the 12 (Dual-driver)?

And do you think it would be easy enough for me to install having not done anything, or is it best to have you do it? And how much extra would that be? Thanks Don.

The DLS ones seems to be popular, otherwise the Alumapros for fancy factor or the Kickers for general coverage. Otherwise..Fishman.

IMO? No otherwise I would have recommended it.

Easier? Obviously the all in one solution.

No adaptors needed. Either simply splice RCAs in or use the High level adaptor built in.

Not a problem Greg, it happens. Sorry to hear about it though, especially after you told me the price tag they came with.

YEa thanks guys. I know Don is awesome Im just still doing research. One question though. I noticed its only 180RMS Im not sure that's enough power to do what I want to do, although like I said Im not sure. What do you guys have to say about this unit. It seems very similar to the DLS.

lol. Nice... Why does it have more RMS power though and is so much cheaper? I'm really starting to be concerned about the 180RMS as Im doing some research that seems to be on the weak side, no?

Also what about getting this thing

http://cgi.ebay.com/JL-AUDIO-10W6V2-...QQcmdZViewItem

Will I be able to get an amp and a box with the rest of the funds to keep it under $500? And wouldnt it pound harder than the dls ASB310, and stlil be accurate with a sealed box and a nice amp?

All right guys. Here is what I came up with so far after doing some research today. Please let me know how this would compare with the DLS ASB310 all-in-one.

Box: $40
http://cgi.ebay.com/SINGLE-12-SEALED...QQcmdZViewItem

Sub: $260
JL Audio 10W6V2

I do not know of a good amp yet but that leaves me les than $200 for amp and install. What do you guys think?

Sure but I would really appreciate it if you can help me comapre these setups since Im sure you have heard your fair share of these... How do you think the 10w6v2 above would compare to the ASB310? Its going to be a little more expensive, but I think it would hit a little harder no?

Thing is over the years I have gotten used to that all-in-one is usually not as good as buying seperate although a little cheaper... I just want to look at other options and compare them before I make a final decision... So what do you think? Also which amp would you recommend to power that 10w6v2? After all that how do you think it would compare to the dls ASB310? Also can you think of any other options, because I remember you said that was just one off the top of your head. Thanks.. There is soo much info out there!

Oh and by the way could you pm me how much you would charge me to install this stuff? Thanks.

P.S. what other options would I have Don for say $500 installed by you?

Comparison? The Basslink is giant piece of ****.
I somewhat agree that all-in-ones arent typically as good, but its DLS. Enough said.
Yes, a W6v2 would be louder but expect to spend multiple hundred on an amp to push it, plus wiring, and install.

Who are you asking to pm you a price of install, me?
