MDF rings in my door

I have a 4th gen 1997
I want to take out that plastic ****ty enclosure in my front door and put mdf there. What do i need to get? I saw at some sites selling 6.5" MDF rings i would have no problem buying them from a site, or someone who makes them on this site. I think i would need more then 1 ring on either side, no??
Any tutorials on this, or help would be greatfully appreciated.

i want it to stop rattling and get better midbass.
i will also be dynamating the car in spring time also so that should help also.

anyone can really do them for you. You can easily do them with a router and circle jig. Or less than perfect with a jigsaw.

Well besides actually making or getting them, i want to know what i should do with the plastic piece in the door.

Do i just unscrew this plastic thing and put 2 mdf rings in each door or do i take the plastic piece and put a ring on top of it?

Thats what i was getting at.

The rings replace the plastic shrouds.

If you get them from Don he will probably make some countersink holes, at which point you can use some 1-1/4" drywall screws to mount them.

I can make them, but I would need the speaker to set the proper hole size, not all speakers have the same diameter opening, so I dont make them and have them on hand ready to give out.

How much would you charge for a pair shipped to 77520? Are they 1.5" thick MDF? They are to fit CDT HD comps.

1.5" MDF? Never heard of such a thing. Nor ever the need for it.

I'm also looking to get the CDT HD-62 components for the front in a 2002. Do I basically need to glue these two together for each speaker?

IMO yes I do, but if youve actually heard the CDTs and like them, then definately go with em. I am not one to tell you that one sounds better than the other to Your ears.

.75" spacer + .75" spacer = 1.5" spacer. I asked about that because it appears that maybe Cant_Get_Ryte's are about that deep. It's no problem though as it seems that it's not something you have interest in. Thanks anyway.

I do understand how to add. But you made it sound like you could purchase 1.5". Which ive never heard of. Only up to 1"

Here's my $0.02...

Here's the ones I made in my GXE... 3/8" MDF portion attached to the door and 1/2" MDF portion attached to the speaker, glued together with wood glue, and screwed together with the speaker screws (Infinity Kappa 652.5i). I used a jigsaw to cut the shapes, and used the stock plastic speaker baffle (or whatever it's supposed to be...) to sketch the outline for the base of the speaker. Properly crossed over to remove the bass from all the door speakers (Infinity Reference 6002i in rear with same MDF baffles). Took me a couple of hours to do because I initially made it with 1/2" MDF for both "rings" and it didn't fit properly, so I was lucky to have had some 3/8" MDF left over from my trunk project, and everything fit perfectly after I tossed the 1/2" MDF portion that attached to the door. There were two problems that I ran into with this project; 1) the stock bolts from the stock speakers weren't long enough to reach through the 1/2" MDF "ring" and catch in the stock holes that were already in the door for those bolts. I didn't want to drill new holes in the door in order to attach the new speakers, so I figured out how to use the stock bolts from the plastic POS speakers, and everything has worked just perfectly since I got my system completed; 2) the screws from the speakers were too long to fit through the single 1/2" MDF ring, and I didn't want the speakers to start scratching my new tinted front windows, so I had to add the 1/2" MDF ring so that the speakers wouldn't interfere with the path of the window. I finished this project before the end of last summer, and everything has been sounding much better since!

Hope that helps, and good luck with your sound system! (BTW - Diamond Audio components are THE BEST speakers my ears have ever heard... I just couldn't afford the ones I heard, but they sounded AMAZING!!! I've never heard CDTs, but I've heard great things about them as well. My Infinity speakers sound pretty damned good for my ears and all four speakers cost me under $150 shipped (CarDomain.com sale last year). Everybody that's heard my system has been impressed - even my mom loves how my car sounds, and she was only sitting in the back when she heard it!!!)

Pearl96Max...

Whatcha got, bro? I'm always interested in knowing what's out there, and I know you're one of the few resident audiophile pros, so I know that you know your stuff.

The Diamond Audio speakers I heard were installed in a 200? Cadillac Eldorado. I don't know what other speakers were installed in the car, but the place I had my DVD system installed at played a live music track from a CD that the owner had in the car and it sounded incredible. If there's a place I can listen to what you suggest here in L.A., I'll gladly go check them out and validate your suggestions.

I'm all ears, I guess you could say...

Making the MDF rings wouldn't be difficult, but will the fit properly in the door without modifications?

Is there a number that Don can be contacted at? I have been trying to email him and always receive an error message. I dont have the post count to PM him. I need MDF rings made for my 97 max. The rings would be for a set of MTX TXC6.1 comps. Any info would be appreciated
