a gps unit and dvd player
a gps unit and dvd player
I was looking around for a dvd player for the car plus a GPS unit as well. When i look at it both items can get pricey about $500 each. I was looking at other ways to go and what not. I don't need the best top of line stuff. Just something to help me out looking for some roads here and there and some dvd entertainment at the light or on long boring roads. And well theft is something that bother's me as well.
I recently found out about Microsoft Streets with a built in USB GPS unit. It goes for about $100. My friend is selling me a laptop for $350. Now it kinda seems like i can have my GPS unit and dvd player for $450. I ran the specs on the system and it will work nicely with the MS software. The battery life on the sucker is 5+ hours. It has a dvd-rom drive and its a 12.1 in screen.
Now if i use this laptop instead of getting both a GPS unit and a dvdplayer, in dash type, would i be missing out on anything. I can only think of one. I dont have my car speakers playing the dvd audio and i have a lot wires here and there. I drive alone 95% of the time so i can just put the laptop on the seat.
Is there a way for me to hook up my laptop to a microvision screen or anything like that.

Wholesale I can get a half din unit for about 120, or a hideaway unit for about 85. I was looking at other ways to go and what not. I don't need the best top of line stuff. Again, run the power inverter and you dont have to really worry about battery life. It will convert dc to ac so that you can plug the laptop in and constantly charge it. I would also recommend checking out MP3car.com as they have alot of differing options. I have an account with Xenarc (Which i havent used in awhile, but with their VGA input and touchscreen models you can circumvent having to use a laptop and go with a mini case in the car. Run your gps program and call it a day. Just another option.

You can keep your current radio and just add on, either through auxillary input or through a FM Mod that will work with your radios tuner
.
