n00b thread :wavey:

Doesn't have to do with maxipads

1998 Durango
pretty much all of the speakers are blown . I believe the stock system is 2ohm. I'd like to use the factory amp if possible because I don't think I'll be able to find an amp small enough to fit in the stock location.

My Dad does not want an aftermarket headunit, he likes the stock one. The amp cannot go on the back of the seats/under the seats because it will interfere with the function of the truck. There might be the option of inside the center console or possibly under the middle seat in the middle row, but he said he does not want an amp anywhere other than the stock location, he would rather just replace the speakers with stockers.

Doesn't need to be high end stuff, budget is $350 (with some play), yes it is tight, but since he rarely drives it, he does not give a ish.

Well if they are 2 ohm speakers in there without getting another set of 2 ohm speakers, or some with > 90db sensitivity its going to sound like anus. Good luck finding 2 ohm speakers < $350 for 2 sets.

Where is the stock amp located? and how big is it? Does this durango have that little opening in the trunk under on the floor? Don put a diamond amp in there for my old boss and it fit fine.

Efficency isnt gonna effect the load at all, regardless of them. Even at a 95+db hes gonna have some pretty poor power runnin em..

Well thats true, but thats now why I suggested it. Main reason is say its making 30 watts at 2 ohms and the stock speakers are maybe 85db in the sensitivity department, at 4 ohms MAYBE he'll get 15-18 watts, with a speaker that is more sensitive like up to 94db it should be CLOSE to what stock was... but maybe my logic is flawed, bottom line in any case like this its going to sound bad.

First.. the difference between a 88-90 is minimal, further hed be hardpressed to find a 94+ set of coaxs and within the budget he has set. I can find a few, but the pricing wouldnt be there for him. Theres also other factors that would come into play, cant base everything off of one spec.

A friend was getting me a set of Kappa 2Ohms at cost (<$200) but apparently his work dropped Infinity for Eclipse and since I was waiting for them to come off backorder, me = screwed

yes it has a storage compartment, however it is crammed full of tools, towing and recovery gear.

I'll work on getting that for you

I assume I would just throw some RCA ends on the wires going into the amp, right? or would I need a high/low? :-/

and Nismo, why not just find 2 ohm speakers?

honestly everyone was happy with the stock speakers

Theres a reason people are selling, AND a reason why people arent buyin em, even at those prices.

Go aftermarket and be done with it, youll thank me later.

Don, at Paul's shop we just replaced the factory amp in a TL, in the kick itself. We used an Eclipse amp, it was tiiiiny. I think the model number was 1412 or something. He said it came with a flip out unit from a couple years back, but since the customer was using RCA's, that wasn't necessary.

Maybe a unit like that would work?

Don needs to switch the U and W keys on his keyboard

can you buy those amps seperately?
Even better, will the factory wiring be sufficient? :x:
