Best SQ head unit

which one takes the cake in terms of sound quality, the Nakamichi CD700II or the Denon DCT-100??

You're probably not gonna get a very good answer in this forum. Not enough people with experience with those decks.

Like I said in the email..neither of which should even be looked at for your modest system.

Dont get me wrong, what you have certainly is upper tier products and some of the better available in their class, but not for a $2+K HU. Theres tons of competitors that have invested 10s of thousands of dollars into their vehicles and still dont run either of those.

Neither of which are really for a daily driver. Not to mention the DCT-1 is no longer in production and hasnt been for a bit. Warranty service if needed would be somewhat difficult to obtain.

Instead of looking at discontinued JDM product for a simple system like yours- i believe you are better off with a Clarion DRZ9255 or Premier P9 which is currently the best available in the US market within reason.

You got two great answers from Manny and Don. There's so many better things you can do with 2k than a super duper high end head unit w/ no processing.

Word. I wouldn't spend more than $1k, and even that is high.

Here's one of the Denon-made Rockford Fosgate's at a reasonable price.

Oh and if you wanna drop serious coin on the head unit, where if I remember correctly, actually won the "high end head unit showdown" (guys hooked up car audio hu to home reference systems and compared), someone is selling the McIntosh MX5000 together with it's D/A converter. Looks stockish, and again, would qualify as a contender for "best" sounding hu based on this test. Pricey though...

i'm just gonna get the Nak CD400. It'll be good enough for my amp and speakers, which I'm gonna be listening to in passive.

in passive, meaning using passive crossovers? Thats cool, but you were about to drop 2K on a head unit...certainly you could afford to go active? Usually, that will yeild an improvement in SQ. Either way good luck and enjoy and take pics. Stop by on the way up to hear my ride!

yeah, the passive crossovers that come with the speakers. Thanks, yeah I'll try to stop by after the install.
