PAC-ECL question

Hey guys,

I was hoping I wouldn't need this with the CD7000 because it's supposed to integrate with factory steering wheel controls without an adapter, but I've tried myself to get it to work, I've called Eclipse, and I've asked Don, and I've gotten nowhere with all this. If anybody does know how to get it to work, please clue me in. Otherwise, my question is, with a PAC-ECL, how big of a delay is there between when you press the button on the steering wheel and when the stereo responds? I had the SWI-X with my Alpine, and I know that had a big delay, but that was also infrared.

Its really not bad. I just did the SWI-PS for slickrick, which works the same way, so Im sure him/Don/others will chime in, but I am one of the ones who never recommends the SWI-X and Id definitely recommend the SWI-PS and ECL anyday, I thought it worked well.

There is no delay with the ECL, or, if there is, its very very short. Maybe by the time you depress the button, is when it gets the command.

Thanks. I guess I'll be ordering one then, because I've looked and can't find anything about how to actually do it without the ECL. I actually read one thing that claimed the ECL isn't compatible with the CD7000...I hope that was wrong.

What does the 7000 have as far as steering wheel control wires are concerned?

And, IIRC, Don is running the pac with the 7000 on his G.

The 7000 has two wires just like the other Eclipses with steering wheel controls, but supposedly it doesn't need the ECL like the other Eclipses because you're supposed to be able to download the SW data from E-iServ, but customer friendly Eclipse never put the stuff up there.

Their technology is unsurpassed, but the support is lagging behind.

What the **** is the point of buying a printer if it comes with no drivers?

Yeah, exactly. I mean, I even called Eclipse and spoke to somebody about it and he said, "I think you need either a Toyota or Lexus for that to work, but I'm not sure."

What the **** kind of support is that?

Theyre not the brightest candle in the box.

The Toyota and Lexus vehicles are complete plug&play. No learning/teaching anything. Wire it up and go. A few of the other HUs have the steering controls, but need more to make it work. The 7000 is a learning system, so your supposed to be able to teach it. I have yet to resolve this though. Now Im actually glad I left the ECL in there. At the time I was being lazy, but now...guess Im glad. Although mine will be out all together shortly if ya need one.

Yeah, I just wish the instruction manual said something about how to actually teach the thing. I might just get that ECL from you; when will you be taking it out?

Also, not that this is at all related, but I finally got a chance to try to figure out the hissing noise today. I regrounded the sub amp so both amps are now grounded together, I regrounded the HU, and I ran a new power wire for the HU. None of these made any difference. I did figure out that the hissing goes away substantially when I disconnect either the right or left RCA from the sub amp. I guess this is good enough for now. Now I just want my damn steering wheel controls to work. Don, can you PM me about the ECL (price)? Thanks.

Stinger hyper for the component amp and fosgate for the sub amp. I know it's not the RCAs, I never had this problem with the Alpine HU.

Is it possible that I actually have a defective HU? I didn't have any noise or hissing with the Alpine and then it became terrible as soon as I put in the Eclipse and I've tried everything. Even with the gains literally at 0.25V on each amp, I still have loud hissing. And it only goes away completely (or close enough) if I shut off the sub amp alltogether. And sometimes with that amp on, I even get distortion in the components when the bass hits hard.

Is it only with the front or rear preouts? Try switching them to isolate the problem to HU

Well I'm not sure whether there's hissing in the mids, but there's definitely hissing in the tweets which would be the front preouts. But like I said if I disconnect one of the RCAs from the sub preout (at the back of the stereo even) the hissing is basically gone. So somehow the sub amp is sending noise back to the HU and then it's going out through the component RCAs???

Active setup. Check out my beautiful drawing...

1/0 awg from battery to trunk, then 4 awg to each amp and 4 awg ground from each amp. RCAs are run completely separate from power wires.

Maybe you should bring it down for some troubleshooting.

BTW, you have your RCAs backwards...

You've got me stumped, you're using ample power wiring and quality signal wires. Maybe it is in fact the HU

Haha, yeah, I've tried everything else. I hope it's not the HU, but if it is, I hope it's just this particular one and not all CD7000s...
