i cant wait to hook it up, im trying to figure out how to wire my sub to it to get 1 ohm or the best i cant get, its a alpine type r 12 dvc, how should i wire it to get 1ohm so its 500rms??

1 DVC driver with Voice Coils in Parallel
Connecting the two voice coils of the driver in parallel (+ to +, - to -) will result in the following impedances:
Dual-6 Ohm Subwoofer: 3 Ohms
Dual-4 Ohm Subwoofer: 2 Ohms
Dual-2 Ohm Subwoofer: 1 Ohms
Dual-1.5 Ohm Subwoofer: 0.75 Ohm

im thinking this

but which outputs do i use??? thre are ++-- idk y 4

I have the jl 500/1 powering 1 10W6 V2, and its not enough power, sounds clean though, but just make sure you tune the amp correctly, correct frequency etc.

ah then I understand I have seen 3 type r 12's blow with around that much power. I would get a nice 12 or 15. IIRC that amp does power from 1.5-4 ohms and if you have a dvc2 12 (which I doubt) then I'm surprised the amp ran well. anyway, look to achieve a 2 ohm load with any sub setup and you are fine.

wow i use to think it was a stout sub, guess not

myne was DVC 4ohm, i think i had t wired so ir was running at 2 ohm

i might buy a type r for cheep for now and try to not blow it, or ill go to a deler around here and get a real sub

That statement is not a good basis, or even a general statement. Shoot, still more then 90% of todays 2 channel amps CAN NOT run 2 ohms bridged and you would end up frying the amp with that advice. Also about half of todays 1 channel D-class amps can produce way more power running down to 1 ohm so on that advice you would be wasting half the amps power.

Now for some better advice. Find out at what impedence your amp put out the most safe clean power at and then match your subs accordingly. In the case of the JL 500/1 it really does not matter as long as it is 1.5-4 ohms as will put out the same amount of power over that range.

I am referring to the specific amp he has...not a general statement like it may have appeared to be. some reports have stated that amp gives more juice at lower impedences but even still I did not base that when I said 2 ohms.

I thought those amps put out full power at anywere between 1-4 ohms. I could be mistaken and that could be only th 1000/1. If that is the case, it doesnt really matter how you wire it once you dont go beloiw 1 ohm and set the gains correctly, preferebly with a 50 Hz tone.

incorrect on both accounts.
