Which one of these Pioneer HU to buy

I am looking at a brand new model Pioneer Premier DEH-P780MP and the older (2005) version of Pioneer Premier DEH-P860MP (factory remanufactured)
I can get them both for the same price +/- $20

I know that the P860MP is "higher end" model but it is the older model from Pioneer. Plus, It has the "old look" and the screen is smaller (16 color only vs. 64k), plus the 860's EQ has only 13 vs. 16 bands.

I don't really see the advantage of having the older P860MP model vs. the brand new model P780MP. What am i missing?? Is there a good reason to buy the 860 instead of the 780 that i don't see on the spec sheets??

Also, i can get the 860 only "remanufactured". Should be concerned about this? Are these units too fragile? Share your experience.

Thank you for any feedback!

i have the deh-p860mp for over a year now with no problems at all, and i love it, it has controls for just about everything you could think of. Its a very solid unit. the only problem is that the display can be difficult to read on really sunny days, but that would be the same for both...

I have the 8600 (regular Pioneer equivalant to the 860) and really like it. I would stay away from any thing reman'd, but I'm not a big fan of the "one **** does it all" on the newer one.

My 860 had to be sent back to the factory 2 times. Now its okay though.

I would say get the 780, but as stated before the 7-way rotary **** may take some getting used to (I hate them). and the 860 is actually an '04 model. Tons of expandability and 5 volt preouts make it seem like a solid deck to me.

Normally I would suggest Alpine but the '06 Alpine decks are disappointing compared to the models from the last 2-3 years.

i have the 6800, and it takes LOTS of time getting used to the rotary ****. they tried to jam everything into that stupid big button..

great features. but extremely poor ergonomics across all of pioneers higher end line

The 860 is Far from a solid deck. Pioneer shot themselves ten times over with that and the 960. More returns and problems than any other deck in their history.

The only advantage that I see is that the 860MP would allow you to go active with the built in crossovers.
