Made new vented box today, PICS...

finished this thing up today, sealed it and sprayed it with rubberized undercoating. Worked out to be 3.66 cu.ft after port, divider and sub displacement, tuned @ 36, sealed up and stiff as a ****. I think it's gonna slam, been playing around with WinSD for a week or so and this is what I came up with, lemme know what you guys think...

Box before installing face/subs and after undercoating inside...

What's going in the box: 2- Earthquake DBX12's:400rms/1000max, single 4ohm coils wired in parallel to present 2ohm load to Audiobahn A8000T(I know, don't start. It's only temp.), 800rms x 1 @ 2ohm(maybe if lightining hit my car...

Finished up, after everything installed, sealed and wired, ready to be slid into the Max's trunk, after the silicone dries...

Here's some pics of it in the trunk(4th gen by the way)...

The box is really close to the trunk scissor bar things, but it still closes w/o making any kind of ghetto noises...

well, all I can say is that I am definatley going to need some MAJOR dampening all over the car, especially in the trunk. My rear-view mirror moves down, my everyting rattles, but it sounds REALLY good considering what I'm using to push them with. I had the sunroof open, put in a low-hitting cd, the new TI IIRC, and the front edge of the roof of the car where it meets the back edge of the sunroof moves up and down like 3-4 inches...

after listening to it once it was in my car, I didn't think it was tuned to anywhere near 50 hz, I went back and looked in WinSD, and I had my "Vent Length" measurment a little too short, just a numerical input error...

I edited my first post also, actually tuned @ 36hz...

PS: definatley not just rap music, I have to have my system sound good blasting metal too

just a note for your next box build...go easy on the screws. too many screws can weaken the MDF. just use some good wood glue and less screws.

No screws and clamps FTW. Wood glue makes a bond stronger than the wood itself. Screws arent needed at all...

I found that out after trying to take apart a box I had built using gorrila glue. I had to end up using a jig saw to cut the glue apart.

BTW: I like the ports being on the outside. That is the way I build about 90% of my boxes.

arite, 10-4 on the screw thing. When I upgrade my system to something with some real power that will be my plan.

I could not believe how good it sounded though, partly b/c of my amp. but it gets loud as hell with actually really good sq, so I guess upgrading can wait until the 3.5, and until my truck is back on the road...

Would just like to put out there that WinSD can be an incredible tool to use if you have the right stuff to plug into it... props to the guy who came up with it and decided to give it out for free!!!

sure can, I have lots of time thru the week now since I only work on the weekend, maybe I cold start up a business.

where abouts you located??? If you want you can drive to Lakeland(between Tampa/Orlando) and i can help you throw one in there. let me know what kind of subs ur using, how many and what kind of bass your lookin for and I can run some #'s in WinSD to see what I can come up with.

I am also planning on doing something about the way it looks, maybe making peice to go over the face to make it the box look as if it's part of the trunk, and not just a box stuck in the there, then painting or carpeting it. don really know yet but will keep everyone posted...

Just a question for ya. Why did you go with two seperate chambers? If those chambers and ports are not EXACTLY the same size, you are going to run into phasing issues. Do yourself a favor and cut out the center brace, and leave about an inch or so around the edge for strength. I will guarentee you will gain in both SQ and SPL.

i doubt it'll be that noticeable to the human ear. but it may be more apparent on a meter though.

My friend and I have this arguement almost daily. Yet we have never proven anything out of it.

I have always done it that way, I guess that's the reason. Not to say it is correct or not...

honsetly, if there was a difference in the two sides(which, by having measured everything out on the completed box, I know there is not), being that I know who built it the difference would be so miniscule that it would in no way justify me taking that thing back out of my trunk(extremely tight fit), tearing it apart, then putting it all back together again and retuning just to get that extra little bit out of it, that I am not totally convinced I would even realize...

plus, removing that center brace would add to my internal volume, which I already have where I want it, and the box is tuned to the displacement it is at right now, so I would definatley not be screwing around with it, again, for that tiny bit that will prolly not make any noticable difference whatsoever from inside the car.

I do not SPL comp. my car(yet!), so no diff. to my ear, me no care...
